Welcome back Year 4. It has been so lovely to catch up with you all about your Christmas holidays.

In our English lessons this week, we have recapped our unit from last term. I was so impressed with our non fiction monster reports that we wanted to showcase these skills one final time. We used everything we had learnt and I was amazed by how much we remembered. Using the same skills, we planned and wrote our final non fiction report. Looking at some fantastic examples of the children's writing from last time, the children read and identified key skills within them to inspire their ideas.

In our Maths lessons, we dived straight back in. We completed 3 lessons on developing our timetables. We focused on 9s and 7s. Learning all of our fact skills. Our homework this week is Maths to support our understanding of these concepts.

During our spelling lessons this week, we completed our unit 3 from last term focusing on using the prefix 'auto'.

During our Reading lessons this week, the children have been asked to change their reading aloud books, if needed. We have then spent time enjoying our reading for pleasure books and reading aloud to an adult.

In our Big Art lessons this week, we have been exploring Abstract art. In our lessons, we have looked at the work of Kandinsky and Pollock. The children were able to recall some of their learning of abstract artists from Year 1. We then learnt about the Paul Klee. We learnt three different ways of using his concept 'A line is a dot that went for a walk'. The children allowed their creativity to flow and created fantastic pieces of work. We used oil pastels to add blocks of colours to our work. The children then looked at another style of Klee's – using shapes to create image. We look closely at his 'Castle in the Sun'. Using prepared shapes, we created our own interpretations of this style. In our second lesson of big art this week, we created stain glass windows inspired by the work of Paul Klee. Using squares, rectangles and triangles, we created our own scene. We used oil pastels to add colours. Keep an eye out for these appearing on our classroom windows soon.

Our HeartSmart lesson this week saw us create a recipe for a healthy family life.

The children have been given their bingo board tasks this week and we look forward to seeing what they create!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Welch
