Welcome to Year 3
Year 3 is taught by Miss McCurrie
Welcome back...and I have never meant these two words more in my life as a teacher!! I cannot wait to have our Wybunbury family all back together and our Y3 class back on Monday. Normally, we have a big reveal of our new topic but as we all know, this term we will finally be learning about...The Romans! There is great excitement around this topic after missing out in Year 2 due to lockdown 1 and then again in Year 3 due to this lockdown! I am just as excited as you all are to teach you all about the Romans this term.
We will be reading lots of non fiction books to find out information about what life was like in Roman times. We will start our big art by learning about the Roman army and will make some fantastic Roman shields.
Alongside our non fiction reading, we will be reading the story "I was there...Boudica's Army" by Hilary McKay. This story is a fast-paced and fascinating account of a young girl in the Iceni tribe in AD 60. As Queen Boudica leads her people to march on Roman-occupied Colchester, young Kassy's beloved pony, Honey, is stolen away and taken to war. Will Kassy be able to find her and bring her home safely? This first-hand account of a child's experience of life in ancient Britain really helps to bring to life our learning. Lots of books will support our learning journey this term about the Romans and here are some of the key books we will be reading:
The Usborne Official Roman Soldier's Handbook
Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit
Meet the Ancient Romans by James Davies
The Street Beneath my Feet by Charlotte Guillain

To help you be organised for the week, you need to know that your P.E. lessons will be taking place on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Jenkins. Please remember to come to school dressed in your PE kits every Thursday.
Homework will be set and discussed every Friday.
Weekly SPaG homework will be set via SPaG.com. This will support classroom learning from that week.
Weekly maths.co.uk homework will be set and TT Rockstars can be used to boost your times table knowledge!
Please record all reading in your reading diaries every week. Remember that every time you read you record it in your diary. Please bring in your reading wallets (reading records, read aloud books and response books) each day.
You can also try and read as many of the reading challenge books as you can! You can review this on our brand new reading website -- which can be found here -- Our website is www.y3reading.weebly.com
