Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 is taught by Miss Haynes and morning learning is supported by Mrs Van-Russelt.

Welcome to year 1 superstars! I hope you have all had a fantastic summer making memories together and staying safe. I hope you are excited to start your new adventure in year 1 and I hope you have a very fun and exciting first term.

This term we are going to explore the world of transport through our topic of journeys and discoveries. Our topic is going to take us on our own adventure by using the stories 'The Hundred Decker Bus' and 'The naughty bus'. These stories show that when you go on a journey anything is possible. The stories also give us links to a variety of different types of transports from hot air balloons and ferries to cars and the decker bus itself.

During this term, we will also be learning about everyday materials in science, finding out about inspirational transport inventors, creating our own canal art and exploring the 4 different countries that make up the united kingdom.

I am so excited about this term year 1 and I can't wait to watch you grow as you transition into the year 1 routine and rhythms. I want you to remember to always be a superstar, work hard and always believe in yourself.

Your teacher,
Miss Haynes

P.E

The children's PE day is on Tuesday with Mrs Jenkins. The children are expected to come into school in their PE kit and they will stay in this all day.

Homework

The children will be given a writing bingo to complete over the whole term. A reward will be given to any children who complete all of their bingo homework by the end of the term.

Each Friday, an activity will be set on school jam so that the children can practice their math's skills at home.

Reading

Please record all of your reading in your reading diaries every week and remember to bring your reading book and wallet to school every day.

We have a Y1 reading website that we encourage children to visit. The link is:
