Year 5 is taught by Miss Pennance with learning support being provided by Mrs Samms and Miss Dean
Welcome back to our last term together! I cannot believe we are now two thirds of the way through Year 5; isn't the year going quickly! I hope our Summer Term will be fun, exciting and packed full of interesting facts and learning. So what will our focus be this term? This time, all our work will have a Geography and Science focus as we will be traveling to the Democratic Republic of Congo to join Imara and many other characters in our new book . . . Gorilla Dawn by Gill Lewis.
During the term, we will be learning about climate zones, biomes, habitats, deforestation, conservation and much more. Please read the Holistic Plan to find out exactly what we'll be doing.
To help enhance our knowledge of biomes, habitats and conservation we will be going on many educational visits to Wybunbury Moss this term. This is because we are going to be taking part in the John Muir Award. If you would like to find out more about this, please check out there website.
Not only are we doing the John Muir Award, we are also heading off to Nantwich swimming baths (it's a very busy term). Our first session is on Monday 13th May so please make sure you have your swimming kit ready. There are 9 sessions in the programme which means our last session will be on July 15th (this excludes half term).
There is one last change that you need to be aware of. As we are now fully prepared for PowerMaths to begin teaching at 8:50am, I will no longer be on the door each morning. However, you will be able to leave a message with a teaching assistant or if you require a longer chat you will need to arrange this through the office. I will still be available for a quick chat at the end of the day.
I am very excited about this term and I hope you are too. Remember to keep working hard, keep being resilient and keep trying your best because that's what is most important.
To help you be organised for the week, you need to know that your P.E. lessons will be taking place on a Wednesday morning for 1 hour. Please ensure all PE kits are in school and clearly labelled.
Homework will be set and discussed every Friday.
A weekly list will be sent home containing 5 words (linked to the spelling pattern of the week) to promote deeper learning. You will be expected to write them out in handwriting book to also promote joined up handwriting.
You will also receive a list of statutory spellings to learn each half term.
Weekly SPaG homework will be set from the CPG books
Weekly homework will be set on SPaG.com to accompany learning in class as well.
Weekly MyMaths homework will also be set every Friday and will recap the week's learning, with at least one task to be completed.
Weekly Time Table Rock Stars
Even though you are in Year 5, it is still vital to keep reading. Please record all reading in your reading diaries every week. I would like to see at least three entries.
Spellings, SPaG, times table testing and reading diary checks take place every Friday morning, so please ensure you bring in all your relevant books each Friday.
