Welcome to Year 5! I am very excited to be your teacher, and I am excited about where our learning journey is going to take us. We will be starting our new academic year off by learning
all about the Victorians. We will be traveling back in time to the Victorian era, This is one of our five books for the term. The other books are:
Street Child by Berlie Doherty
Cogheart by Peter Bunzl
The Grotlyn by Benji Davies
Victorians a D K Eyewitness Book
During the term, we will become print artists, toy makers, learn about the magic of materials and much more. As always, if you would like to know more about what you will be learning this term, then please take a look at our Holistic Plan.
I am really looking forward to our new topic and I hope that you are too!
Please keep up to date with what is going on in our Year 5 classroom by following our posts on Facebook and Twitter.
Homework will be set each Friday. Please work hard to complete all your homework fully and on time. Each week you will be set either a SPAG.com or a Maths.com. During the week, you will also be expected to read every day and do TTRockstars. If you find that you've got a busy week on and you can't quite get your homework done, don't worry because I will run homework club at a lunchtime where you will be able to stay in and complete the task.
Each Friday, homework will be checked and re-visited if needed. If you are unable to complete these tasks at home, or if you need support, please let me know and I will arrange for you to complete them in school.
Even though you are in Year 5, it is still vital to keep reading. Please read your 'Big Cat' book each night to an adult and record all reading in your reading diaries every week. In the classroom, there is a Year 5 Reading Challenge basket. Inside, there are fantastic reads which will transport you to different worlds and take you on gripping adventures. Once you have read a book, complete your book review at http://www.y5reading.weebly.com/, Will you be able to achieve the bronze, silver, gold or platinum award?
Our PE lessons this term will take place on a Wednesday afternoon and will be taught by Mrs Jenkins. You will also have an extra P.E lesson with Sportscape on a Friday. Children are asked to come into school in their PE kits on the day that it is being taught. If there is a change to the day that PE will be taught that week, you will receive an email to notify you. Children's PE kits should consist of a Wybunbury Delves blue PE top or plain white t-shirt with no logos or prints, black shorts, white or black trainers, black tracksuit / joggers (essential for PE during winter months) and a Wybunbury Delves black PE hoodie. We will also be continuing with the Daily Mile so please ensure you have trainers in school to change into.
