At Wybunbury Delves we aim to 'light the spark for a love of learning and of life' and feel that the learning of a language fosters children's curiosity, develops skills of language and literacy and deepens their understanding of the world and their place in it.
French is our Modern Foreign language, and it is taught by each class teacher across Key Stage 2. Thanks to the Erasmus+ grant, all teachers had the opportunity to develop their language skills and knowledge. As a result, Wybunbury doesn't want the teaching of French to be just in KS2, therefore elements of French are also introduced in Key Stage 1 and EYFS.
In our lessons, a heavy emphasis is placed on learning through games and fun activities. The children love learning in this way, and it helps make learning a new language even more exciting. This method meets the approval of those who are most important to us – the children: 'The way we learn French is fun.' Y5 and Y6 pupils.
Due to the Covid-19 school closure, teachers and children are both working hard to build upon their previous knowledge and learn the elements that were not able to be taught during this time.
