Welcome Year 4

For the New Year, and new term, we are starting a new topic... Castles and Medieval Britain. In the Spring Term, we will be leaving the Vikings behind and moving nearly 100 years forward in time to the Medieval Era. Throughout this term, we will be learning why castles were an important part of medieval life, how to design and make a castles most important defence – the catapult and how to create our own medieval portraits in the style of Hans Holbein.

For more information about our learning this term, you can view our Holistic Plan here!

You can also view our newsletter  here. This will tell you lots more about the exciting term ahead, as well as key information for our class...

I am very excited about our new topic and I hope you are too. Remember to keep working hard, keep being resilient and keep trying your best because that's what is most important.

Your teacher,
Miss Welch

Useful Information

Our Year 4 Team

Miss Holland will support teaching and learning in Year 4 this term. She will work with us from Monday to Thursday each morning. Mrs Pointon will also be supporting our learning in Year 4 on a Tuesday. Finally, Mrs Jenkins and Miss Holland will support Year 4 on a Wednesday afternoon.

Our PE lessons this term will take place on a Wednesday afternoon this term and will be taught by Mrs Jenkins. Year 4 will also have Sportscape PE lessons on a Tuesday afternoon. Children are asked to come into school in their PE kits on the days that it is being taught. If there is a change to the day that PE will be taught that week, you will receive an email to notify you. Children's PE kits should consist of a Wybunbury Delves blue PE top or plain white t-shirt with no logos or prints, black shorts, white or black trainers, black tracksuit / joggers (essential for PE during winter months) and a Wybunbury Delves black PE hoodie. We will also be continuing with the Daily Mile so please ensure you have trainers in school to change into.

Homework will continue to be set each Friday. I encourage you to complete all your homework fully and on time. I use homework to consolidate your learning and to enable you to prepare for a new week. Homework will be checked and re-visited each week. Maths.co.uk, or Power Maths, or Spag.com online homework will be set every week. If you are unable to complete these tasks at home, or if you need support, please let me know and I will arrange for you to complete them in school. Regular reading at home and times tables practice will also be included in your weekly homework – TT Rockstars continues to be a successful way to practice your times tables.

Please record all reading in your reading diaries every week. Remember that every time you read you record it in your diary. Please bring in your reading wallets (reading records and read aloud books) each day.You can also try and read as many of the reading challenge books as you can! You can review this on our brand new reading website!
