Ofsted 2021

Ofsted came to visit us on 3rd/4th November 2021 and we are very proud that they continued to find that we are a GOOD SCHOOL!


Ofsted said they found a "close-knit school community" where pupils "thrive" due to the care, support and the strong bonds between school and home.

What did Ofsted say?

  • This is a happy school that lies at the heart of the local community.
  • "Leaders are ambitious and have high expectations for every pupil.
  • "Staff encourage pupils to do their best each day. Pupils work hard and behave well.
  • "Leaders, including governors, have created a close-knit school community that supports pupils' learning and development extremely well.
  • "The school's broad curriculum provides pupils with a deep understanding of issues such as equality and the importance of British values. Pupils thrive due to the care and support that staff provide each day."
  • Inspectors also praised staff at the school who responded to the Ofsted survey and said they were proud to work at Wybunbury Delves.
  • "They all strongly agreed that the school is well led and managed," the report added.
  • "There is a strong bond between parents and carers, and staff at this school.
  • "Parents are highly supportive of school leaders and the adults who teach their children.
  • "Written responses on Parent View were extremely complimentary about the school's leadership and the quality of pastoral support that staff provide for pupils.
  • "Many made specific reference to the actions that staff took to promote learning during the periods when the school was closed to most pupils."



Headteacher Kathryn Chesters said she was proud to be the headteacher of a "wonderful school with fantastic children, families and staff".
She added: "I am delighted that Ofsted recognises the hard work and dedication of our staff and our ambitious expectations that ensures every child in our school thrives.
"Our school is very much a family with our values the heart of all we do; our children are happy, settled and learn with enthusiasm."

What did Ofsted say?

  • You have made sure that every child in the school experiences a rich and broad curriculum that fosters creativity and provides opportunities for pupils to develop their imagination, while they improve their knowledge, skills and understanding in English and mathematics.
  • Teachers carefully craft art themes into other subjects, which they weave through their planning of pupils' work.
  • Pupils are immediately 'hooked'.
  • They enjoy their work, demonstrate enthusiasm and a natural thirst for learning.
  • Strengths seen previously in reading and writing continue, while pupils now make much stronger progress in mathematics than they did in the past.
  • You have made sure that the school's dedicated and committed teachers develop the teaching skills and resources needed to implement the new national curriculum throughout the school.
  • Teachers are becoming skilled in using a 'mastery' approach to learning mathematics.
  • Pupils, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, are challenged appropriately
  • Since the last inspection, pupils' behaviour and conduct have continued to be exemplary, in lessons and around the school.
  • Pupils' love of their school is reflected in their good attendance, and they are keen to share their views on the school with visitors.
  • Those [pupils] who hold positions of responsibility proudly explain their duties and show off their badges of office.
  • Pupils proudly show their work to senior leaders and greatly appreciate the headteacher's awards and the other prizes and certificates they receive.
  • Leaders have successfully developed a culture of safeguarding in the school.
  • Staff have a shared understanding of their responsibility to make sure that all children are safe, happy and exceptionally well cared for here.
  • Pupils say they feel safe in the school, a view confirmed by parents
  • Leaders carefully plan opportunities for pupils to find out about current affairs and news themes
  • A caring ethos is evident throughout the school and staff promote a culture of high expectations, and improvement through teaching skills to encourage pupils to become effective learners.
  • The school's three newly qualified teachers are well supported through a good induction programme, to help them as they embark on their teaching careers. They have joined a group of experienced and well-qualified teachers with excellent subject knowledge and a good understanding of pedagogy.
  • Together, this team of teachers ensures that teaching is consistently effective, leading to good learning.
  • Pupils love 'big art', which they explained uses art to 'get them interested' in their new text or class reader.
  • Achievement in reading continues to be a strength in the school
  • Children are being supported well towards making a good level of development in the early years foundation stage.
  • Parents are overwhelmingly supportive of school leaders and wholeheartedly recommend the school.
  • Parents greatly appreciate the support they are given to help their children with learning and say teachers freely give their time to parents to answer any queries they have. As one parent put it, 'staff go the extra mile', while another said, 'I don't want my child's journey here to end.'
  • Governance continues to be effective. Governors know the school well and the governing body balances the budget carefully to make sure funds have the greatest impact on improving teaching and learning.

In May 2012 Ofsted inspected Wybunbury Delves and judged us to be a good school with many outstanding features. Ofsted said:

  • An outstanding curriculum that plays a crucial role in developing pupils' outstanding spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
  • Pupils' behaviour, in lessons and around school, is outstanding.
  • Their attitudes and behaviour make an outstanding contribution to their learning
  • Pupils are extremely respectful and courteous towards one another.
  • The quality of teaching is consistently good with outstanding features.
  • Teachers makes good use of assessment information to plan learning that meets the needs of all pupils.
  • Leadership is effective, fostering a harmonious and caring atmosphere where pupils are nurtured.
  • Overwhelming support from parents and carers, typically praising the school for its 'family atmosphere' and the 'warm learning environment'.
