Our English lessons gave us the opportunity to rehearse a wishing tale titled the King if the fishes. We answered comprehension questions and then went on to develop our knowledge of relative clauses. To identify relative clauses, we began to look for an example of relative pronouns like when, who, which, that or where. Further on in our week, we continued to develop our knowledge and use of relative clauses. The children wrote their own version of our king of the fishes story displaying a range of fronted adverbials and relative clauses. We also spent some time discussing the vocabulary in our model text.

In Maths, we concluded our work on Fractions. We ended the unit with a review lesson. This enabled us to apply all our fraction skills that we have learnt over the last few weeks. We have then moved on to learn about decimals. We began this unit with a recap of what we already knew about decimals. We then explored the vocabulary, representations and resources we would come across. We have then been learning about the value of tenths. We have used ten frames and place value grids to represent decimals with only tenths or tenths and ones.

Why the Whales came has been our focus text in Reading time this week. We worked hard to unpick new vocabulary to understand more about the character the Birdman. We used the text to retrieve and infer information. We also then compared and contrasted two different versions of part of the story.

We have enjoyed doing lots of Science this week. Our first lesson this week was from our Animals unit. At the beginning of the lesson, we tested our knowledge of MRS GREN. The children were able to recall many of the characteristics of a living thing. We then took part in a 'happy families' activity. This involved looking at a mix of pictures of plants and identifying the ones which are from the same families. We related this to how scientists use classification to identify living things. At the end of our lesson, we learnt how to create our own dichotomous (classification) key.

With Mrs Pointon, we started our new unit. This is all about electricity. We began by identifying different electrical appliances, and then we were able to sort them into categories to show which are powered by mains electricity and which were battery powered appliances. The electrical circuit equipment arrived in our classroom and we were excited to get to know all the components. We were set a challenge to light a bulb, and we used lots of trial and error methods to connect each part together. By the end of this activity, we had made lots of complete circuits and discovered more about electrical insulators and conductors.

In Geography we had a short focus on reviewing our learning from last term.

For our HeartSmart lesson this week, we thought about who the unseen heroes of our community are. We know there are many roles, both in and out of school who work hard to keep us safe within our community. We are very lucky to have refuse collectors, road sweepers and road maintenance workers to name a few!

Bible Reference – 'When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honour to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.' Philippians 2:3-4

This afternoon, we have been working on our studywork books. Some time has been presenting our History work from last term. Some further time was then spent showcasing our big art Chinese ink wash work. We have worked hard and spent some lovely time reflecting on our learning so far this year.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend.
