Another week has just flown by Year Two. This week you have been super writers, historians and material detectives.
In English this week, you continued your learning on our class story 'A river'. We have read our example text each day so that we can understand how to write a circular story and you have learnt the meanings of all the high-level vocabulary in the story. You used this vocabulary to write your own sentences. Towards the end of the week you worked super hard on delving deep into the character of Tom and you used a role on the wall to do this. You described his personality and what he sees on his journey on the river. You then used your role on the wall to write a character description. I was amazed by this writing and the description you put into it. Our SPaG focus of the week was expanded noun phrases which you learnt was two adjectives and a noun.
In reading this week you were put into your phonics groups and you were given your reading books. I am so proud of with how many children are reading at home and completing their challenge books. Keep this up superstars!
In maths this week, we have been continuing to look at our place value to 100. I am incredibly proud of all the skills you have shown this week. You have building and writing numbers using 10s and 1s, you have used a place value grid and even added big numbers up like 50+2. Well done superstars! We have enjoyed completing our power maths questions and playing lots of games too.
Why is the bible special to Christians? This is our big question in RE this term. We started out lesson by looking at different versions of a bible. We found out that there are many different versions that all look different to each other. We thought about which bible was our favourite and why. You also thought about who might have read the different bibles. We thought if there was lots of pictures and big writing then this bible might be more child friendly. We started to look at how the bible is split up into different parts and what these parts are.
Have we always used cars, planes and trains to travel around? This is our focus question in history. We started our lesson by looking at different types of transport. We looked at some old and new photographs and thought about how they have changed. We then learnt what a timeline was and why historians might use timelines. You then found out when cars, planes and trains were invented and we put this on a timeline along with other important events that have happened that you have learnt about in Y1. You couldn't believe there was time where people didn't have vehicles and just had to walk!
In our music lesson, we listened to and appraised our first song – Music is in my soul. We read the lyrics really carefully. Creating a mind map, we decided the song was about friendship, love, hope and determination.
In our PE lesson we carried on with our balancing, throwing and catching skills by playing teams games and competitions.
In science we became material detectives as we went on a material hunt around school. We recapped all of our learning from Y1 and then went to find objects made from different materials. You were fantastic at this and we really enjoyed listening to a song about materials. I think I might still have it stuck in my head now...
In wellbeing you wrote about everything you love. It was so wonderful to hear about all of the different things that you love in life.
Year Two you have had a super duper week! Keep up the good work.
Have a wonderful weekend.
See you on Monday,
