It may have only been a short week Y2 but we have had lots of fun in our learning.
In English you planned and wrote your letters to the king to stop him from banning the dark. You gave so many amazing reasons. He got told that he shouldn't ban it because astronauts will lose their jobs, Christmas will be ruined for all of the children in the kingdom and people won't be able to blow out their birthday candles. We will continue to write these letters up next week.
In your steps to read sessions you have focused on a book that was all about habitats. Over the course of the week, you answered comprehension questions about a range of different habitats.
In maths, you have been continue to focus on fractions. You have learnt how to find a half, quarter and third of an amount now. Which is incredible! You also found out that unit fractions are fractions where the numerator is one and non unit fractions are fractions where the numerator is a different number than one. You then built upon this learning to find out that 2/4 is equivalent to ½. You are become fraction experts!
Did your seed grow? Well, what a very exciting lesson we had in science as we finally got to look at our cress plants that we had been growing. We were trying to find out from our experiment what a seed needs to germinate. We were very surprised when we found out that the seed that had no light had grown. We then realised that a seed doesn't need light to germinate because it gets it's food from the food store. However, we realised that our plant that has been in the cupboard is not healthy because the leaves were yellow and the stem was white. You then completed your conclusions on your experiment sheet and reflected on how they were different to what you first predicted. Great work scientists!
What happens in a church. In Re this week, you learnt about the events that happen in church? We reflected back on our visit to church and what we had seen. We remembered that Reverend Alison showed us a baptism. We then went to look at the pictures around the classroom which had some photos of some events that happen at church. You thought about what you could see in the pictures and what the people were doing. You then discovered the different events that happen and some of you that go church even shared your experiences of this events. Towards the end of the lesson, we looked at different pictures of churches around the world and thought about how they are different. You were then set the task to design your own church and think about the events that will happen in your church. You were amazing designers!
We've done lots of practise for sports day. We started with an obstacle race, then worked on our skipping skills as we're currently struggling with that area of the race. We'll work on this some more next week. We have also worked hard on the relay race, ensuring we pass the baton carefully but quickly
How did the fire start? Was enquiry based question that we were focusing on in history this week. You learnt all about how the fire has started in Nicholas Browne's house whilst he was brewing beer. You found out that it spread quickly to over 200 buildings which made 900 people homeless. You discovered that people took refuge at St Mary's church because it was made of sandstone and it would have been less likely to catch fire. You wrote a diary entry from Nicholas Browne's point of view to explain what had happened on the day of the fire. They were incredible!
Have a wonderful weekend in the sunshine Y2.
