Another fantastic week of learning has whizzed on by in Year 2...
During English this week, we received a strange message from an astronaut. He told us that he'd bumped his head and had forgotten how to brush his teeth! We got straight to work thinking about writing a set of instructions to help him. We watched space videos and thought about imperative verbs. We built our knowledge of verbs and also spoke about adverbs also. Next week will see us write our own set of instructions explaining how to brush your teeth in space.
We continued to also spend lots of time this week working on our handwriting. We thought about boat, sun and sea letters and where they sit on the line once again. Well done!
In Phonics and our reading sessions this week, we continued to recap a range of sounds and spellings. Well done, team. It's also been great to see so many book reviews this week too, please keep it up!
In Maths, we continued to build upon our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We looked at adding 10 and subtracting 10 to a number. We also focused upon adding ones and we started to layout the column method to help us. We used the 100 square to help us add and subtract this week also.
In our third MyHappyMind session, we recapped the three parts of the brain. This week saw us focus upon the amygdala and how it is used for flight, freeze or flight. We thought of situations where our amygdala has been at the forefront and has taken control over our reactions and emotions. It was brilliant to see so many different ideas into your journals.
In P.E, we completed sessions with Mrs Jenkins and Ebony. With Ebony, we continued to build on our football skills.
We continued with our space chant in music. Our ideas and choice of rhyming words were included from last week. To help us create a good rhythm for saying the words, we clapped the syllables of each word. We then agreed on accompanying actions and practised these. To end our lesson, we added space pictures to match each chant line.
In R.E, we continued to answer our big question of "What do stories from the Bible tell Christians about God?". We built upon our knowledge of the Good Samaritan story. We each joined a team and role played the story. We had freeze frames in which we had to talk about how our characters were feeling in the moment. Well done, team!
We also took part in Messy Church this week, it was fantastic to complete a range of Harvest celebration activities.
In our Computing time this week, we completed an unplugged activity. We spoke about what an algorithm is and used toys to "programme" an algorithm using them as our "sprites". We used computational language such as forwards, backwards, left and right. Well done, team!
Throughout the week we have taken part in a number of worships. On Wednesday, we thought about making good choices. We drew around our hands and thought about the good choice we had made throughout the week.
In History, we continued to focus on our unit all about Neil Armstrong and his life. We watched more videos about Neils life and the Apollo 11 mission. From this, we were able to create talking posters. We drew fantastic pictures to illustrate Neils life and talked through our posters to show understanding!
For our third HeartSmart lesson this term we focused on what makes us, us! We created a sandwich filling of all the things that make us unique. We talked about how we are all kind, thoughtful and caring.
Have a lovely Sunday,
