Another half term has flown right by and I couldn't be more proud than each and every one of you in Year 2. This half term we have taken on SATS, enjoyed lots of funny moments together and have worked hard each and every day!

In English this week, we took part in poetry. We read so many interesting and funny poems and used them to create our own. We thought about what a wizard might have in their pocket, created our own versions and looked at rhyming couplets too. We had so much fun creating a silly poem. Here were some of my favourites: "I am amazed by hyenas, Because they like eating ballerinas". As well as, "I am amazed by chimpanzees, Because they have dirty knees."

In Maths this week, we completed a series of lessons based on the four operations. We used our methods to complete lots of word problems that included two steps or more. We were fantastic in our reasoning this week, well done! We also looked more closely at our x2, x5 and x10 tables too.

In History we completed a Study Work page all about our Queen. We used a range of pages from our history books to consolidate our learning and they look fantastic! We also finished our 1990s mood board, which now sits proudly in our Study Work books too!

On Friday, we managed to create a fantastic piece of artwork that shows our amazing queen. Have a look at our picture, we loved making it!

We had so much fun planning and preparing for our jubilee celebrations on Friday this week. We perfected our 90s songs, finished our mood board and learnt so many more things about the queen including her family tree. We played a question and answer game in History where we found out some many amazing facts about our magnificent monarch. On Friday, we joined the whole school in a jubilee picnic on the field and then sang lots of iconic songs as well as sharing our mood boards. What great fun!

In D.T we continued our new unit on sewing. We spent the lesson practising our sewing skills and focused upon the running stitch. We even practised threading our own needle, this builds upon the sewing skills we did in Year 2. We managed to sew a piece of material this week. Well done, team!

In Computing this week we had a focus lesson all about online safety. We recapped what we already knew about online safety and had a very grown up conversation about how we use the internet. We then shifted focus to our lesson objective of "people over tech". We discussed a range of scenarios where using technology got in the way of friends and family. We talked about how using tech is fun but requires a cut off point. We used the technique of "think, pause, stop". Well done!

In our extra P.E session this week we once again focused on our ball and racquet skills. We played the ice cone game which focused upon our serves and hand-eye coordination!

Well we discovered our very own musical superhero this week! John Williams (the composer) showed us how to conduct an orchestra playing the music he composed. We loved listening to the theme tune to the film, 'E.T.' We learnt that he also composed the theme tune to Star Wars: A New Hope. We were keen to know more about the brass instruments we could see being played. To end our lesson, we learnt notes D and E on the glockenspiel and improvised using notes C, D and E

Have a lovely half term,

Mr Dale
