A fantastic first week back after half term has passed us by. We have been perfecting our positional language, writing about the terrific Traction Man and cricket skill conquerors

In English this week, we started a new T4W all about our focus book, Traction Man. We read the story and thought about the main characters and some of the SPaG that author, Mini Grey, used throughout the book. We learnt different sections of the book thorough chanting and actions, whilst also completing a series of short burst writes. We developed our expanded noun skills and came up with some fantastic sentences in the process. We've also been busy practising our handwriting and joins this week. We looked at arm to boat letters and arm to sun letters, well done!

We continued to use our phonics knowledge to help us with spelling this week, as well as a focus on word classes. We identified nouns, adjectives and adverbs throughout the week in the many books that we read.

In Maths this week, we completed a short unit on position and direction. We quickly got used to using language such as anticlockwise, clockwise, quarter turn and many other positional language phrases. From this, we were able to direct different characters in our Power Maths books to where they wanted to go. We also spent lots of time outside getting practical. We created bug mazes and even directed each other to find certain things. On Friday, we looked at patterns and you were all great at spotting the different shape patterns within our Power Maths book.

In History we wrapped up our unit all about our amazing Queen. We recapped the Jubilee celebrations over the weekend and got to work writing a fantastic paragraph all about what we now know about the queen. We added pictures and lots of facts to our writing too. Well done, Year 2!

In Computing, we completed another level on Code Studio. We recapped why we use loops and repeat buttons in our coding and this helped us to programme a sprite to draw lines. By the end of the lesson we could code our sprite to draw stairs, mazes and even a Pokeball! Fantastic coding skills, team!

In R.E this week, we completed our BIG question all about the symbols within the Holy Spirit. We each picked four symbols and created wonderful watercolour artwork around this. We then explained through sentences what each symbol represents in terms of the Holy Spirit and Christians beliefs. They look fantastic!

In our extra P.E session this week we focused upon cricket skills. We battled through the drizzle to complete a series of cricket stations. These stations included: batting and bowling, aiming, bowling at wickets and team catching and throwing games. Well done, Y2.

In this week's HeartSmart lesson, we looked at helpful ways we can deal with hurt. We spoke of places (to go when we feel sad),people (we can speak to) and forms of play we can do to help us express how we are feeling. Letting the 'ouch out' is important for us to release our hurt. Bible Reference – 'Love does not count up wrongs that have been done.' 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

We also took part in a range of worships this week, our favourite being Picture News where we discussed the role of the NHS and how much hard work they do.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
