Here's a question for you: How much can you fit into 4 days? The answer: A LOT! We have been super busy in Year 2 once again this week...

This week in English, we focused on a story called Nat Fantastic. We read it together and then rewrote it, changing the characters and plots to make it our own. As we rewrote the story, we included possessive apostrophes, adjectives, and edited our work to make sure it made sense. We also used Fred Fingers and asked friends to help us with spelling, which helped us improve our writing. Overall, it was a great week in English and I am really proud of how well we did.

In Maths, we answered a range of problem-solving problems this week. We used our column methods and times tables to help us find the solutions. We also worked hard to perfect our arithmetic skills and step counting. On Friday, we started a TTRockstar battle against Year 4, which was really exciting. We can't wait to see who will win!

This week, we continued to answer a range of past SATS questions to help us prepare for our upcoming tests. We read a variety of texts, including fiction and non-fiction, and we also continued to work on our phonics sounds and speedy reading. We really enjoyed the different texts we got to read this week and we're feeling more confident about our reading abilities.

In History, we started our new unit all about our big question of "Why was Queen Elizabeth II so important?". We began by learning about the royal family and the line of succession. We found out who would be the next king or queen and learned about certain rules related to this. Next week, we will look at the life of Queen Elizabeth II along a timeline. It's been really interesting so far!

This week in Art, we continued our unit on pop art. We learned about the artist Andy Warhol and his repeated patterns and block colour. We also practiced using oil pastels and watercolors to create vibrant backgrounds. It was really fun to experiment with different art materials and techniques. We're looking forward to seeing what we'll create next.

To celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles, we made pop art King Charles portraits. We used our art knowledge and styled our art in the form of Andy Warhol. We can't wait to share these with the rest of the school.

In our sports coaching sessions, we played diamond cricket this week. We used our batting and bowling skills to take part and we all worked hard and had a fun time. We love P.E. lessons because they're always so active and energetic.

We thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Flying Theme from the movie E.T. We discovered the composer, John Williams, also wrote music for Star Wars films as well as Jurassic Park. This piece was definitely one of our favourites so far.

What a fantastic week full of learning!
