Our first full week of summer term has certainly been action packed. We’ve produced super artwork, shown off our skills in Maths and looked at loopy loops in Computing

In English this week we completed our mini T4W unit about one of our five books, Nat Fantastic. The story is about a little boy who sneezes and transforms into a superhero to save the world. We continued to reword and retell the story throughout the week. We included a range of SPaG devices and of course edited our writing too. The stories were full of adventure and I had such fun reading each and every one of them.

In maths, we started a new unit on problem solving. This unit focuses upon word problems and we used our methods to help answer a range of questions. We are carefully reading each question and deciding on what it’s asking us to do. We also completed the 2018 SATS paper this week. I was so impressed with all of your answers and just how hard you are all working, well done!

In Art this week, we continued our unit on portraits. We started the week by creating a mixed media piece using pastel and watercolour. We used superhero templates to create wonderful pop art pieces. We thought about how colour can impact mood in a painting and used cold and warm colours to reflect this. We then spent the next couple of lessons creating a superhero comic book background. We used a wash to create a sunset background from watercolour and then used our knowledge of foreground and background to build our cities. We loved creating our pieces and they look fantastic!

In phonics and reading we continued to read a range of different texts and answer lots of comprehension questions too. We worked through a previous SATS paper to pick up some tips and tricks for answering some of the trickier questions. Well done!

In spellings this week we practised some of our Year 2 spellings once again this week. I have sent home those spellings that you may have got tripped up on. We played two games on the iPad to help us with words like children, water, grass and people.

In Computing, we built upon our knowledge of loops. We started by watching a YouTube clip of Mario Kart. We kept our eyes peeled for loops within the game and we found lots! We discussed that loops are used by coders to maker their code more efficient. We then logged knot Code Studio and completed a lesson all about coding loops. We had to create efficient algorithms with as little code as possible, we found that the loops came in really handy for this.

For music this week, we listened to a new song titled ‘All Around The World.’ This song is about things that human beings share in common around the world, like the stars in the sky, rainy weather and the feelings of our hearts beating. The style of this song is pop and we learnt that ‘pop’ is short for ‘popular’ which is why we hear lots of different styles of pop music on the radio.

We also took part in different worships this week. Our favourite was Year 6’s Worship as we got to celebrate all of our achievements with the whole school.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
