Wow, what a fantastic first week we have had in Year 2. It's been great to hear all about your summer adventures and I was so proud of just how quickly we got into our learning
On Monday, we were all excited as we explored our new classroom and our new topic of space. We were all super excited about this. We jumped straight into some all about me writing. It was good to see you all remembering your capital latters and fullstops. I loved reading about each and everyone of you.
In our other English sessions, we spent time describing some crazy aliens. We recapped nouns and adjectives to help us with this. We made our sentences exciting by adding a range of different adjectives and tried to remember our capital letters and full stops too. We also completed a series of handwriting sessions. We are thinking about our sun, sea and boat letters.
In Maths, we started by looking at different ways to represent two digit numbers. We used numicon, base ten and beads throughout the week to build different numbers. We applied this to our Power Maths learning and completed a number of lessons this week. We have represented two digit numbers, as well as drawing our own representations with base 10 and part part whole models. We finished by having a quick look at number formation. I have sent a picture on SeeSaw of which numbers can be practised at home, thank you!
In Art this week, we completed our BIG ART project and started to learn about our artist and style for this term. We started by speaking about Van Gogh's Starry Night and what we could see. We then used oil pastels to learn five new techniques including blending, layering and short stroke to practise our own versions. For our BIG ART project, we were each given a cube to replicate his artwork. Through using a number of different techniques, we have managed to create a fantastic piece of 3D cube art. Take a look!
In P.E, we completed sessions with Mrs Jenkins and Ebony (one of our new sports coaches). With Ebony, we honed our football skills and learnt how to dribble with the ball using close control. Well done, team!
In R.E, we started our big question of "What do stories from the Bible tell Christians about God?". We spent time thinking about what God means to Christians and how he makes them feel. We had ideas such as calming, thoughtful and a friend. We will build on our big question next week.
Throughout the week we have taken part in a number of worships. On Friday, we took time to reflect on the sad news about our Queen. We worte messages and pictures to remember her.
In Computing, we got to grips with the SeeSaw app. We added text, drew with the pens and even learnt how to save our work. This will help when moving forward as we plan to use SeeSaw in our classroom learning.
On Friday, we spoke about the reading challenge. I can't wait to read all the book reviews! Remember that the more books you read, the more points you are awarded!
Have a lovely weekend,
