A superb week has gone by with us learning how to count in 2s and 10s, how to plan and write a losing tale and even learning about our very own human body.

In English, this week you learnt the rest of our imitation story of ‘lost and found’. We loved learning all about the losing tale and we were glad of a happy ending when the little boy and penguin found each other. On Thursday we built upon our learning by planning our own losing tale. We decided to change the animal, transport and the country where the animal is from. We used our learning from our current and previous topic to change the story. By Friday we had already written the opening to our story using a shared write. I was amazed by all of your writing superstars.

In phonics, you have been continuing to work hard in your small groups learning all of your set 3 sounds. I have been completing a practice phonics screening check this week to see how we are all progressing. I was very proud of all of you when I could hear you read so confidently.

2,4,6,8,10.did you know Y1s have been working very hard to count in 10s and 2s this week. We will continue to work on this next week and build upon the learning by learning how to count in 5s. As well as this, we have been practicing to write numbers to 50, compare them and order them. You are now getting more and more confident with these bigger numbers.

In Geography, we followed our interests of our story of lost and found and we learnt all about Antarctica. Did you know Antarctica is the coldest place on earth? Did you know that Antarctica has 6 months of day light and 6 months of darkness? We were amazed by the facts we had learnt so we decided to research more facts and write a fact file on this continent. We will be building upon this learning by comparing Antarctica to a hotter country.

In RE, we built upon our learning of forgiveness by being introduced to the story of Jonah and the Whale. We really enjoyed this story and thought about how Jonah asks God for a second chance and for his forgiveness. We had a muddled up version of the story and in our books we had the activity to reorder the story. This ensured we knew the story well so that we could look further into it next week.

In History, you completed your hot task and answered the question to ‘How has Chester zoo changed since it opened?’ I was amazed by all of your amazing answers and how much you had learnt in our topic. Well done team!

In Science this week, we began learning about the human body. We created life size drawings of a human and worked as teams to label our kept body parts. We then discovered how special are bodies our. We discovered more about how our skeleton protects our organs, and we learnt about the important jobs that our brain, heart, lungs and eyes do. We used this new knowledge to label our own human body picture in our Science books.

In computing, we used the app chatter kid to create live fact files of an animal that we had researched in previous lessons. You all loved using this app and managed to work out how to use it very fast. By the end of the lesson, you all created your fact file, added text to it and even saved it. These are all fantastic and will be displayed in your study work book.

We have now reached the end of our HeartSmart unit. In this lesson, we reflected on how we show love to others and how this makes us feel. We are beginning to understand how our behaviour can affect other people. Bible Reference: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Mark 12.31

In music this week, we played a Mexican Clap game. We thoroughly enjoyed it! The aim of this game was to work together as a team to pass a sound from one person to the next whilst keeping a steady beat. We needed to have good concentration and coordination skills to make sure that our claps reached the end of our circle and back again.

What a super busy week Y1! Your homework for this week has been emailed out to parents. There are. Few important dates for next week

Miss Haynes
