Reception class, what a lovely end to another great week. The sun has shone gloriously as we hosted our families to share in afternoon tea for Mothering Sunday.

Lest share in our learning...

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

In our heart smart session, we learnt to use words that are kind when talking to our friends.

Boris asked us if we can think of kind words and phrases to use when talking to others.
Whilst sat in a circle we passed around balls of cotton wool and sand paper, we spent time feeling these items and then describing how they feel, we used words like "fluffy, soft, nice" for the cotton wool and "scratchy, hard, cold" for the sandpaper.
We talked about how our words can often be like these two items and thought of some words and phrases that are kind, these included "I really like your hair today" "you're great at drawing" and some that aren't kind "you can't play with us" "I don't like your shoes"

Boris says "We can all use kind words when talking to our friends!"

Bible link: "Kind words are like honey – sweet to the taste and good for your health." Proverbs 16:24

Mathematical Development

Our focus for learning this week was exploring patterns. We began by recognising, continuing and building simple patterns, discovering that patterns can be created using various shapes, colours, sizes and actions. By the end of the week we were confident to identify deliberate mistakes in patterns by identifying the pattern and the repeats in isolation and checking for accuracy.

Literacy Development

In our daily phonics sessions we have continued to recap known sounds and explore new special friend sounds ay, ee, igh and ow in listening, reading and writing activities. We have also practiced our formation of 'curly letters' e, s, and f in our daily handwriting activities.
This week we have very proudly written our mothering sunday messages in our cards to mums or grandmothers. We hope you have enjoyed receiving them as much as we have enjoyed carefully making them.

Physical Development

Our PE focus for this week was finding space and shaping to dodge. We played our tag game and have become very skilled at dodging and weaving. We are also becoming much better at the sportsmanship of winning and loosing.

Expressive Arts and Design

In our music session we listened to their music and then our band played and sang along to The yellow submarine, one of the band's most famous songs. We loved the video as it had lots of dinosaurs in it.

Communication and Language

This week has seen us busy preparing our courageous advocacy worship video to share with our families next week. We have practiced using our speaking voices, ensuring that they can be heard by a listener. After watching our first on back this week, we are amazed at how much more confident we are at speaking.

Have a lovely weekend reception, enjoy the beautiful sunshine and we will see you for our last week of term.
