It's been another fantastic week of learning in Year 2. We've achieved so much this week from continuing our coding journeys to investigating stone age farming...

In English, we started the innovation stage of our T4W unit on 'defeating the monster'. We used our Jack and the Beanstalk story as a guide to help us plan our very own adventures. We came up with new characters and villains, as well as adapting the famous beanstalk into a giant sunflower, cloud steps and a giant tree to name a few. We built our parts together throughout the week and ensured we were hitting our writing targets too. The results were amazing and everyone produced some excellent writing, well done!

We started our reading challenge this week and have already had some reviews sent in! We have shared lots of our challenge books this week and managed to complete two book changes too! Remember that you can leave a review on www.y2reading.weebly.com ...

In Maths, we continued our new Power Maths unit on place value. We focused this week upon comparing and ordering numbers using the less than and more than symbols. We were able to answer a range of Power Maths questions, as well as a series of challenge questions too! We once again played some TTRockstars – you are all doing so well!

In Science, we continued our unit on "Living things". We talked about our previous learning and built upon our learning from last week. From this, we discussed local microhabitats and went on a microhabitat hunt. We also became researchers to explore four different world habitats; the desert, the rainforest, the ocean, and the artic regions. We collected information about one of the habitats and explained which animals live there, and how they have adapted to survive. We then decided what the conditions and weather are like in each habitat. This was all displayed as a great page of research in our Science books. Well done Year 2!

In R.E, we continued our new big question of Jesus and how he lived as good news. We spoke about friendship and used the story of Jonathon and Daniel to do so. We thought about what makes a good friend and how they can make us feel better on the inside and the outside/

In Computing, we continued our code studio journeys. We recapped logging on and spoke about loops. We were able to code loops using our sprites and realised this is a more efficient way of coding. Well done!

In History, we continued our learning about farming. We spoke about what we already know and then how we think farming may have changed over the years. We then spoke about the very first farmers, which led to a brilliant discussion on the stone age. We talked about stone age tools and even had a go at using our own querns to grind seeds! We also recapped our timelines and managed to order them in our books.

Throughout the week, we took part in a series of Worships and particularly enjoyed listening to Y6 talk about what makes a good friend. It was also great to hear from our new Reverend, Alison.

We completed some mindfulness throughout the week too. We used calm breathing exercises and meditation to calm us down after busy lunches!

It has been another great week in Y2 and I can't wait for the next one!
