It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
everywhere we go Reception Class.

We have enjoyed a very special visit from father Christmas, who was really impressed with how we have shown kindness to our families, pets and friends. He was very pleased to hear of the different treats we would leave out for him and his reindeers and listened carefully to our present wishes. He was very relieved to hear the much desired combine harvester was a toy one!

Let's share in our learning...

In our Expressive Arts and Design Development, we have enjoyed turning our classroom into a workshop, crafting Christmas tree decorations for our tree in class. This gave us the opportunity to practice our cutting skills as we had to be very precise with small snips. We even managed to sing a couple of carols at the same time.

This week we have also continued to practise our words and actions to our nativity which we have now filmed in scenes and hope to share with our families after processing into a short movie.

In our Personal, Social and Emotional development, Boris asked us to list some of the great things about ourselves. To do this we formed a circle and used our circle time rules, we only spoke when we were holding Boris and we listened carefully to what each other had to say.
Boris' game was a little bit like pass the parcel, we passed him round whilst singing the 'I am special song' and when the song stopped, the person holding him said something special about themselves.

Boris says, 'I am special and so are you!

In our wellbeing time, we joined our year 6 buddies and enjoyed sharing stories. Thank you year 6, we always look forward to this time each week.

In our Physical Development, we continued to work on spin turns and tip toe walking for our Nutcracker dance sequence.

In our Understanding of the World Development, we thought about the question what are flags? We decided that they may go on buildings like Wybunbury tower, used during a celebration and they are displayed to show what place (or country) you are in. We then thought about the countries the little girl visited in our class story, 'How to make Apple Pie and see the world.' We saw six different flags and we worked together to create examples of each of them, placed them on the world map and sang a song about the continents of the world.

In our Mathematical Development, we built upon last week's learning about one less and strengthened and deepened our understanding of the concept by showing independently how to represent one less than a number up to 5 using pictures and crossing one out.

In our Literacy Development, we continued to write up our story of The Little Red Hen, using our phonetic knowledge and our new skill of using Fred fingers to work out the number of sounds in the word we wanted to spell. Reception class, I am so proud of your writing development, you are becoming confident writers.

In continuous provision, we have followed our interests making crafts, colouring, enjoying stories in the tree house, constructing models, colouring and making dough food in the role play kitchen.

Enjoy the weekend
