PE News 29.4.22

We've had some lovely sunshine this week out on the field!

Years 1 and 2 began by dribbling the ball with the racket. We then moved on to playing catch the leader. In pairs, we took it in turns to be leader and catcher. We dribbled the ball, following the leader and had to try and catch them. We used our hand as a racket to practise bouncing the ball with our opposite hand and then hitting it with our racket hand. We worked in pairs with our partners trying to catch the ball first, then trying to hit the ball back. Finally, we tried the same exercise but using our rackets.

Years 3 and 4 focussed on trying to keep the ball in the middle of the racket when we were bouncing it off the floor. We found that it was easier to keep the bounce going when we kept the ball in the centre! We tried this standing still and moving. We then moved on to rallies. We worked on our control and also trying to make sure our shots were straight by keeping our rackets level and straight! We challenged ourselves to try and beat each previous rally score!

Year 5 and 6 started off by bouncing the ball on the floor. We focussed on control and trying to keep our bounces similar in height. We also looked at keeping the ball in the centre of the racket. We moved on to short rallies with a partner. We were aiming to let the ball bounce just once before we returned the shot. We finished by working in small groups on a small court. One person fed the ball to the rest of the group individually. The ball had to be hit over the net but land within the court. If it landed outside the court or didn't make it over the net, then that person joined the person feeding the ball. The last player left won a point.
