Welcome back to a new year of PE!
Years 1, 2 and 3 have started our dance units. Our topics are; year 1- animals, year 2- space and year 3- Egyptians.
All three classes began by brainstorming our topic words. Then we picked out words that we can create actions to. In year 1 we were snakes, monkeys, crocodiles and eagles. Year 2 had astronauts and stars and year 3 were Cleopatra and the Sun God, Ra, to name a few! We had a practise creating actions to our words and then picked our four favourite to link together into a dance. We also listened and added our actions to our music for the topics. Year 1 are dancing to 'I wanna be like you' from The Jungle Book. Year 2's Space music is 'Sputnik' by Public Service Broadcasting and Year 3 have 'Walk like an Egyptian' by The Bangles.
Year 4 have started our gymnastics unit. We worked on the floor creating a routine featuring six elements. We decided these by playing 'rock, paper, scissors' and tried to make sure we used low and high levels and arches and bridges.
Years 5 and 6 started our Health Related Fitness unit. We discussed the components of health related fitness and performed a warm up. Then we completed our first shuttle run. We worked in pairs, with one person running for five minutes and the other counting the runs, then we swapped over. Afterwards we did a 'sit and reach' flexibility test. We sat with straight legs and our feet against a bench then reached as far forward, along the bench, as we could. Our partner measured how far we reached and then we swapped again. We then recorded our results.
A super start to the term, well done everyone!
Have a lovely weekend.
