Welcome back to our second half term Year 3 and what a busy week of learning we've had. In maths we have started a new unit of addition and subtraction. We spent a couple of days recapping some strategies we used in Year 2 and then we felt confident to start in our Year 3 Power Maths books and wow, what a great start to the unit. You have powered on through! We have been adding and subtracting 100s and we needed excellent number bond knowledge for this which we realised we were a bit rusty on. We played some games to help us with a quick recall of number bonds to 10 and then we had a battle to see who was the quickest...can you play this at home? I am already looking forward to teaching you our second week of addition and subtraction. Keep up the fantastic work.

In English this week we started our new Talk 4 Writing unit and this time it is all about pirates! Ahoy there!! So far we have written our have a go writing our own pirate adventure. I loved reading these! We have also learnt what a simile is and why we use these in our writing. I can't wait to see some of these in your pirate adventure stories! In our TOP SECRET AFTER SCHOOL HANDWRITING CLUB (we want to be the best in the school!) we learnt some different joins and we have been practising these all week. I have been so impressed with your handwriting transformations since September. You are trying so hard, I am proud of you all.

In RE, we used similes to think about how we could describe God. We answered the question 'What do Christians think about God'. You chose to use similes like God is as brave as. God is as powerful as. Have a look at the pictures for some of our work.

For our mindfulness time this week, we listened to some calming, relaxing music and we had a think about five things we are grateful for and made some 'grateful hands'. We were excited to find out Miss Welch loved them and wants to add them to her display.

This week was our first week without a forest school session but lots of you chose to go to the after school session and put your new skills to the test!
Last week in our last Forest School session with Mr Hadfield, we were keen to practise all the skills that we have learnt this term. Firstly by creating our own mini fires. As we were setting up the fire, Mrs Chesters and Mrs Hughes came to visit and they had the opportunity to taste one of our toasted marshmallows. We talked them through how we create a fire and most importantly how to use the tools safely. We then created shelters and practised our skills to use the para cord and tarpaulin. To end the session we used our previous experience to improve our archery skills. What a fun afternoon!

We ended our week with French Friday. In this lesson we put our sentences we had learnt into a conversation and greeted our partner with 'Bonjour' or 'Salut' and then asked what is your name and answered with 'My name is...'. Some of us even managed to answer with nice to meet you all in French. It was great to hear you put your new language skills to the test and chat to each other. Très Bien Year 3!

We also read some more of our class story Oliver and the Seawigs and enjoyed hearing the next part of the Seawigs adventures!

I hope you had a lovely weekend.
Miss McCurrie
