Year 2's First Full Week

Back home  /  News  /  Year 2's First Full Week

We have come to the end of our first full week together, and what a fantastic week it has been.

On Monday we had our first music lesson. The instrument we're learning to play this term is the recorder. We each have our own recorder which will be ours for the whole time we are learning to play it which is very exciting. We learnt about the importance of finger placement during this lesson, and we tried hard to create our very first notes.

On Tuesday, we started our science topic – everyday materials. We investigated different types of materials and listed some of their properties. We discussed why certain materials are good for specific jobs – for example you wouldn't want a window made our of metal! Wednesday was your P.E and Heartsmart lesson with Mrs Pointon, and Thursday saw us exploring the story of 'Moses and the Burning Bush' in our R.E. lesson. On Friday, we had to slightly change our plans, so instead of having an extra P.E session, we designed our crackers. Crackers? Let me explain.

In English and Maths this week we have been doing lots of little activities to document who we are and the things we like at the start of Year 2. For example, we have measured our hands and feet etc using multi-link cubes to see how much we grow. We have written about our favourite things to see if they change, and we have also written down the goals we want to achieve by the end of the year. We are then going to put all of these things inside a cracker (like christmas cracker), and at the end of the year we're going to pull it to see how far we have come. We'll show you our made crackers next week!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss P
