Year 2 News

We have had a wonderful week in Year 2!

In maths we have been learning all about the 'Part-whole Model' and we have been using it to help us partition tens and ones. To do this job, we have also been using lots of resources like our counters, diens and our numicon. You have all worked very hard on this this week. Well done.

In English, we have read the story 'The Three Little Aliens and The Big Bad Robot'. As a class we have then been learning a new version of the story – The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Alien! We have been learning a paragraph each day. We can now retell the first part of the story with actions just from our memory. Wow! We have also been learning about nouns during our English lessons too. We have learnt that nouns are naming words. They name people, places and things.

During one of our afternoons we were scientists. We carried out an experiment to help Bob work out which material would be the best for his new mop that he was planning to make. This meant we learnt all about absorbency, and the experiment we carried out tested which materials were the most absorbent. We had great fun doing this as we learnt how to use pipettes!

We have also been playing our recorders this week, and we have been busy with P.E for two afternoon as well. On Friday we finished our week off by finishing our beautiful paper colleges of the burning bush from the story of 'Moses and The Burning Bush'. They really are looking stunning.
