This week in Y4, we have been fire-starters, perfecting place value and super sound scientists...

During Book Club this week we continued to read aloud, answer questions and complete book changes. It's been amazing to see so many wonderful reading diaries and we've also had some fantastic book reviews this week too! Well done!

In Spellings this week our focus was on the ''sure'' ending, we spent lots of time practising words such as ''treasure, pleasure and even enclosure''. We worked in pairs to complete sentence work, missing word problems and even recapped some of our Y3/4 spellings on Friday!

It was our first time doing our Talk4Writing in English this week. We started with our 'have a go write', in which the children wrote about explorers searching for a yeti. From this 3 targets were highlighted including paragraphs, speech and expanded noun phrases. It was then all about the imitation stage as we got to grips with our example. We read it together and highlighted key parts. We spent lots of time learning actions to retell the story from memory, and then were able to box up the different paragraphs! Next week will see us head into the innovation stage!

In Maths we started our Y4 place value unit. We looked at place to a 100 and swiftly moved on to that of place value to a thousand! We were able to count in thousands and were confident in answering a range of questions on this. Rounding was also discussed, both rounding to 10 and a 100 is becoming quite the trick in Year 4! Well done!

In Science we started our new topic on sound. We thought about what we already knew, creating mind maps in the process. We then used rice and drums to explain how sound is created. The air particles (the rice) vibrated to create sound on our drums! We were amazing at using scientific words to explain this! We then research pitch and how different sounds can be heard from low and high pitched noises. We drew sound waves and thought of different sounds that create different pitches!

During Computing we continued our coding lessons from Y3. We focused on using loops to speed up the coding process! It was fantastic to hear you using language such as ''algorithm'' and ''debugging''.

On Wednesday, it was time for another Forest School session. We recapped fire making and even added petroleum jelly to make our fires last longer! We moved on to shelter building, in which we were able to use pegs, cord and tarps to create weatherproof shelters in the Forest School area!

We spent time completing our daily mile goals and challenges this week on our brand new track!

During Mindfulness this week, we were inspired by the book, ''The Dot''. We learnt that anybody can be an artist and used squiggles to create our very own masterpieces from!

On Friday, we had a special P.E treat. Millie from Sportscape came in to deliver a P.E lesson based on skills. We focused on throwing, catching and jumping

In PSHE we focused upon what it means to me Heartsmart and the importance of letting love in!

In Music we learnt lots about our composer of the term – Beethoven and our artist, Elton John. We completed spider diagrams, whilst also learning the lyrics to our song! Well done, Y3

It's been a fantastic week in Year 4!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
