Welcome back year 1!

Back home  /  News  /  Welcome back year 1!

Welcome back year 1, can you believe this is our last half term together. Let's make it the best half term yet! I hope you had a fantastic half term holiday with all of your families.

In English, we dived straight into our home learning and theme of celebrations with creating our very own special message to say goodbye to Reverend Helen as she is moving to another parish. We all wish her the best and we are all going to miss her very much. A video will be created and shared with all of our fantastic messages on. We then had a SPaG Tuesday, which was a change to our usual Mondays, we focused on all of our SPaG learning that we had done in year 1. You were amazing at this and put all of your knowledge together. On Wednesday, we carried on with the theme of celebrations. We all wrote about our favourite celebration and you all explained why this was your favourite celebration. You wrote about your different memories from Halloween, bonfire night, birthdays, Christmas and Easter. You are all concentrating really hard on keeping your handwriting neat and I am amazed at how hard you are all working on this. You have made a lot of progress! On Thursday and Friday, you found facts about different celebrations around the world and you then presented these facts through comic strips, videos, presentations, posters and fact files. I was once left amazed at the endless creativity you are showing in your home learning.
Check out Tilly's video which is all about Chinese new year: https://app.seesaw.me/pages/shared_item?item_id=item.6dd680b5-e147-447d-ba2a-3b7ecc2f1a78&share_token=iBRi2_vsSk-4vXuGk9Zr2A&mode=share

In phonics, you have been watching Rosie's videos. We are very lucky now because there are even more videos to watch. I have loved seeing some of you go the extra mile and having a go at reading the red words and even the longer words. I am very proud. You have also been very lucky as you have had stories from me, Mrs Swan and Miss Pennance this week. I am also very lucky because you also keep sending lovely videos of you reading your stories too. Thank you for these.

In maths we finished our learning on division and although it was a difficult math's topic, you have smashed it and blown my socks off with all of your super hard work! Please don't worry if you still find it confusing as you will do more learning of this in year two. This week in division you have been using concrete resources and drawings to work out how to share items equally. You have been using your reasoning skills to answer true or false questions. You have been solving word problems and you also had a fantastic go at answering some power maths questions. I think you all deserve a huge, virtual marshmallow clap from Mrs VR and I for your fabulous work.

In the afternoons you have been following the theme of 'celebrations' and you have been creating A-Z lists of celebrations around the world, you have been designing beautiful cards to give to people and you have been baking yummy cakes to have at your celebration party. As well as this, I have seen some of you planting your sunflowers into the ground outside and I have seen some lovely photos of you on your daily walks.

Although I am missing you all very much and I wish it was safe enough for us to see each other, I am very proud of all of your hard work. Do you know that we now have 5000 posts on our year 1 seesaw? That just shows the amazing work and effort you have all put in over these last 10 weeks. I just also want to say a huge thank you to your families who are working so hard at home to help you to still have access to an education. Doing home learning when you are 5/6 is not easy at all and I understand that your families are putting a lot of effort in to helping you complete the activities on seesaw so I just want to say that a huge thank you and that I really do appreciate everyone's support.

I hope you've all had an amazing and relaxing weekend,
Miss Haynes
