Well year 1 can you believe that it's the summer holidays already. It's been a year of bubbles, washing and me chanting 'sanitise sanitise' as you come through the door. Our year in school has been very different and it will be one year that we will definitely remember.
When I look back to our first couple of days to now I just can't believe how much progress you have made and how mature you all are. We started the year as normal and I remember feeling very excited to get to know you and have you in my first ever class. We have had so many highlights and made so many memories. Our best day was definitely our trip to Chester zoo but from there we have had our transport and animal theme days, our worship that you performed to your parents, the nativity, harvest festivals and your Betty bear workshop with Mrs Swan. You have all tried your very best in all of your learning areas and you have created some beautiful and sock blowing work. As you know year 1 you are always blowing my socks off! You have created your own stories in English, created a huge anaconda in big art, made your own London bus in our theme of transport, learnt your numbers to 100 and beyond, learnt about the human body in science and how we are different to animals and finally learnt all of your sounds in phonics. It's just AMAZING. You are like little sponges that absorb all of the learning and skills around you and you then use them in your everyday life.
In March, we had the devastating news that we had to close our school to everyone except key workers due to covid-19. However, our learning didn't stop there. As you all started to adapt to home learning and using seesaw we kept on flourishing. I just want to say how proud I am of you for all of the effort and hard work you have done at home. Being 5 or 6 in a global pandemic is not easy, learning from home is not easy and missing your friends is not easy but I can tell you now that you have honestly been spectacular. Every day, I have had work and photos on seesaw and for that you have kept a smile on my face. It was a learning curve for us all. I would also like to say a huge thank you to your parents for supporting you all in your home learning. Without your amazing parents we couldn't have done this so it has been lovely to work as an extended team.
Over the last few weeks it has been amazing to see so many children come back into the Y1 bubble. There has been a real buzzing atmosphere in the hall and it has been filled with lots of laughter. Thank you to the children at home who have sneaked into the office to say a hello to me. Thank you for all of your lovely messages on seesaw and a huge thank you from Mrs VR and I for all of the gifts. We feel very lucky and spoilt.
Year 1, I know this is the end of me teaching you and this makes me sad but thank you for all of the amazing memories, for making me smile and for making me laugh. I know I say this all of the time but honestly I am ever so proud of you. I have learnt so much from you as you have learnt from me. You've been the best first class and I will never forget this year and you. Please promise me that you will still wave to me in the corridor and show me your beautiful work that you complete with Miss Pennance and Mrs Parker in Y2.
Remember that you are a SUPERSTAR!
All that's left to say is have a wonderful summer. Relax, stay safe and take care.
As always,
Miss Haynes and Mrs VR.
