A sweet friendship refreshes the soul. Proverbs 27.9

This week in our Heartsmart lesson, as part of our Personal, Social and Emotional Development, we sang an adapted familiar nursey rhyme to remind us of how we and our friends are all special:

'Twinkle twinkle little star
You are special as you are
Shining bright every day
We love having you to play
twinkle Twinkle little star
You are special as you are.'

We then shared something special about each other, how they are kind, caring or make us laugh when we are sad. Reception class, you really let your lights shine when you think of others and their star qualities.

Thinking about our Wellbeing and Spiritual Development, we used a calm jar, made from glitter glue and water, to imagine how busy our minds and bodies can sometimes be and that we sometimes need to take time to allow ourselves calmness and stillness in our day.

For our Mathematical Development we have explored the concept of times of the day and the order of events in a day. We began by ordering familiar events using clues from pictures and then introduced the idea that the clock tells the time of the day, without having to read the clock.

In our Literacy Development we have continued to make progress learning set 1 sounds in phonics and developing our segmenting and blending skills to read words accurately and fluently. For our writing focus this week we have looked at invitations and the information they convey: who, when, where and time. We then designed an invitation to Cinderella from Prince Charming.

We finalised our little dance montages in our PE session, as part of our Physical Development, using actions from well know nursery rhymes. We are hoping to share these as short clips on Tapestry soon. In our construction area this week we have attempted to build some intricate palaces and castles for Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Preparations have begun for our Nativity play. In our RE, as part of our Understanding the World Development we have begun to explore why Christians perform nativity plays at Christmas. We have listened to an adapted bible story of the nativity and shared a short clip of children performing a short nativity play. We have discussed all the characters that appear in the story and their significance. We know that Jesus was a special baby and that he was God's son.

Have a lovely weekend
