Our week at Preschool

Back home  /  News  /  Our week at Preschool

Another super busy week has been had...

In our personal social and emotional development, we have continued with our Heartsmart sessions and this week we have been learning how to be kind to our friends. Boris says "There are lots of ways we can be kind to one another". The children were shown some cards with different actions on them – smile, high five, say something kind, wave, sit next to someone and thumbs up. When a card was held up they had to find a friend to do the action with, the children were encouraged to choose a different friend each time. It was lovely to observe how kind everyone is in Preschool. I think we can say everyone's hearts were filled with love after this session.

This afternoon for our well being session, we have been blowing bubbles and watching them float in the breeze.

We have been using our three little pigs props to retell the story as part of our communication and language development this week. We know the story very well now and have been joining in with familiar phrases and repeated refrains – it has been lovely to see the children acting as the narrator as their peers use masks and props to retell the story. We have also been introduced to lots of new language over the week, including, shamrock, Ireland, Irish, leprechauns, plant pot, seed, compost, germinate and science, spring, buds, daffodils, growing..

To support our physical development, we have continued to develop our ball skills. Working with a partner we took it in turns to throw, roll and kick a ball and we had to think of different ways to stop the ball

As part of our literacy development, we have been using talk for writing actions to retell the story of the three little pigs. You can support your child at home with retelling the story, please Tapestry for more information.

To support our writing development we have been tracing lines and circles whilst focusing on developing our pencil grip.

Within our mathematics we have built upon our learning of the numbers 4 and 5 and revisited how many different ways we could make 4 and 5.

To broaden our understanding of the world, we have taken part in science week. On Tuesday, we joined the whole school on the school field to watch the launch of the space weather balloon and then we took it in turns to hold the balloon – wow! We have also been exploring the season spring. We learned that plants begin to grow in spring and planted our very own seeds. We will explore signs of spring further next week.

This week we have been thinking about Easter and you have been introduced to the Easter story. We learned that Jesus died on the cross, we discussed that this may sound sad but in fact Easter is a time to celebrate and remember that Jesus loves us all. We then decorated our own cross using wool and then hung on our Preschool Easter tree – doesn't it look fantastic!

We ended our 'super' week dressed as superheroes to raise money for comic relief – what super heroes you are Preschool!

Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week
