Years 5 and 6 were excited to join Mr Hadfield for their first after school session this week. As a group we learnt about the history of how people make fires, the tools they used, and how over time they have become more efficient with the tools they use.
We moved from the tepee to the forest school area and learnt about staying safe and how to move around the fire circle as a group. We then explored how to create our own mini fires using fire steels and learnt that fire needs fuel, heat and oxygen. Lighting mini fires required determination and focus. Once we had our first try, we added more fuel and practised using the fire steels again.
By the end of the session we all gathered round a larger fire to toast marshmallows. What a memorable first session with lots of new skills learnt.
Thank you Mr Hadfield, we are looking forward to next week.
