Another week in Year Two has just flown by. You have worked incredibly hard to create some amazing pieces of work. This is what we have been up to:In English, you found another letter in our classroom. This time it was from Henry who had wrote some instructions to Herman on how to get to his house. We read through the instructions and learnt all about imperative verbs. You found out that these were bossy verbs. Throughout the week you have been busy writing sentences using imperative verbs, lists and conjunctions. We loved listening to how we can get to Herman's house and we can't wait to create our own instructions for our characters. In maths, you have started your new topic on multiplication and division. We spent some of our week looking at equal and unequal groups. You then used your knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to work out how many items were in all of the groups. You learnt how to write the multiplication symbol and what a multiplication sum looks like. You found out that the first number is how many groups and the second number is how many items in each sum. We will continue this work next week when we look at our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. In your steps to read lessons you have been reading the story of 'Once upon a wood'.In RE, you looked at all of the different miracle stories written about Jesus in the bible. You thought carefully about what each of these stories teach us about Jesus. In computing, you inputted algorithms into a beebot to move it around your very own beebot map. You learnt that when the algorithm doesn't work and you have to problem solve this is called 'debugging'. In science, you learnt about food chains and you found out that in a food chain there is a producer, consumer and predator. You understood that the arrows in a food chain represent the flow of energy. Did you know that the producer produces it's own food this is mostly a green plant. You put together food chains from different habitats that you have learnt about. In PE, you built upon your dodgeball skills by practicing throwing, catching and dodging. I was so impressed with how much you have learnt about underarm and overarm throws. In music, you learnt about raps and you sang a rap called 'Hey you'.In history, you have been focusing on what farms look like now. You learnt that farms are a lot smaller than they used to be and are categorised in three categories: arable, livestock and dairy. Our highlight of the week was our interfaith lesson. We looked at our world faiths and what they were called. We then focused on stories from world faiths and how we can learn a lesson from each of the stories. We looked at the story of 'The blind men and the elephant' taken from Hinduism. We listened to how all of the blind men thought that elephant felt like a different object e.g. a rope, spear, brick wall etc. They were arguing with each other because they all thought that they were right and the other man was wrong. That was until a wise man came and told them that all of them were right because they were all touching a different part of the elephant which meant they all thought the elephant was similar to a different object. We learnt from this story that it is important to listen to each other's ideas and to understand that other people are right too. You then completed an activity where you designed your own elephant on how the blind men described it. These look fantastic!I hope you have a wonderful weekend team. Well done for working so hard this week, I am always so proud of you!Miss Haynes
