Wow Year Two what a week! You have worked so hard this week
on practicing our worship so we could share it with the school and your families
on Friday. I am amazed by how clear your message of kindness was throughout the
whole worship and how confidently you spoke and sang. You left me with tingles
and goosebumps after you performed your worship so well. I am so proud of you!

In English this week, you have been working hard on analysing
our danger letter. You carefully searched the example text to find adverbs,
conjunctions, apostrophes, and plurals, showing a great understanding of
how these features are used. You then completed your writer’s knowledge,
thinking about the different SPaG features the writer had used and the effect
they have on the reader. After that, you wrote your own paragraph in
the same style as the example text, making sure to think about your purpose —
advising Tom about the dangers he might face along the river and how you could
help him. Towards the end of the week, you began planning your own letter,
and as a class, you decided to choose the sea setting so you could warn
Tom about the dangers out at sea.

In phonics, we have been continuing to review our sounds and
learn to read with fluency, accuracy and comprehension.

In maths this week, you continued with your topic of addition
and subtraction. You began by reviewing your number bonds to 10 and
recalling all of your number facts to 10, thinking carefully about how to work
them out. Did you know that if you add 2 to an even number, it will always be
the next even number along the number line? You then moved on to exploring
whether addition or subtraction is commutative. After using number
lines, ten frames, and part-whole models, you discovered that addition
is commutative because you can swap the numbers around the plus symbol —
but subtraction is not, as you always have to start with the biggest
number.

In our courageous advocacy work you worked on creating
kindness boards for your parents and children in school. We can’t wait to see
how much kindness everyone can share. In
heartsmart, you completed your end of unit task thinking carefully about how
much you can look after yourself and other people around you whilst making
people happy. You thought about some next steps that you would like to achieve
so that you can become more heartsmart. In history, we finished our unit by
answering the question ‘Did we always have cars, planes and trains?’. All of
you answered this question with ‘no’ and gave some fantastic answers of why you
thought this using all of our learning. In science, you have been learning
about the importance of recycling and reusing. You found out that there are
only certain materials that you can recycle and most packaging will have a
label on to tell you if it can be recycled or not. We thought about how we can
reuse different objects/materials so that we don’t just put everything into the
bin. You then completed an experiment to see if you could recycle waste paper
and turn it into new paper. We can’t wait to see how this looks next week after
we have had our paper soaking over the weekend. In PE, you have worked hard on
completing your end of term assessment by showing off all of the skills that
you had learnt in our lessons. In computing, you thought about information
technology that you can find inside and outside. We even thought about different
jobs where you may not use any information technology e.g. someone who works in
forest school. Hey Friends was the focus of this week’s music
lesson. We sang, added actions, and in partners, modelled how we ‘play, sing
and dance.’ This upbeat song really does make us smile! In PE with Coach Beth,
you focused on your running skills.

What a fantastic week you have had Year Two, I can’t believe
how fast this term has gone.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Haynes
