Wow Year Two can you believe we have got to the end of our first Spring term. It has flown by and I am so proud of everything you have achieved in such a short half term. You have made everyday in school a fun place to be!

This is what we have got up to this week:

  • In English, we have been building upon our journey of understanding instructions. This week you learnt what a place adverb was and wrote some of these in our sentences. You understood that these adverbs tell us where you are doing something so we had amazing sentences like 'Jump over the grumpy goat'. We then moved onto planning our instructions of how we are going to get to our character's house. On Friday you wrote the first part of your instructions and after half term we will finish this off!
  • In maths, we have been completing more work in our multiplication and division topic. You have been learning all of your two times, ten times and five times tables. This is something that you need to continue practicing everyday. You have also been creating arrays to show your multiplication sums.
  • In reading, we have been focusing on building upon our fluency.
  • In Re, you worked hard on thinking about all of your learning this term and you answered all of the questions on your questful map to answer the question of 'Why did Jesus welcome everyone'. You had some amazing ideas like 'Jesus has God's powers' 'Jesus is a friend to everyone'.
  • In science, you completed your end of term quiz all about living things and habitats. You really showed off all of your knowledge!
  • In heartsmart, you have been thinking about how we all work better as a team. You all drew yourselves and what makes you an individual on your jigsaw piece. We then put all of the jigsaw pieces together to show how we are one big team.
  • In courageous advocacy, we have been focusing on our learning of perseverance. You listened to a story of Gracie and thought about how she needed to persevere when riding her bike and tying her shoelaces. You thought about when you have had to persevere in your lives.
  • In PE, you have been building upon your dodge ball and game skills.

Our highlight of our week is definitely finishing our history topic of farming. You looked carefully at how farming methods have changed over the years. We reflected on our learning about stone age farming and thought carefully about the methods that were used then and compared them to now. We thought about what a method is to start with. We then looked at old farming techniques e.g. using hand tools to harvest crops and using hands to milk cows. We then looked at how this has now changed to combine harvesters harvesting crops and machines milking cows. We watched an interesting video that taught us how a combine harvester works. It showed us what the machine looked like on the inside there were lots of 'wows'. Another highlight of our weeks is us all coming together on a Friday for our show and tell. I am just amazed at the effort the children put it in to complete their bingo board. Thank you to all of you parents for helping your child with this and keeping them inspired in their learning at school.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term break.
