What a great start to our last half term together! We
wrapped up warm as we braved school without no heating.
This week we have been completing lots of new learning
In English, you wrote your instructions on how to get to
your character’s house.
In maths, you have been working on learning your 2, 5 and 10
times tables and creating arrays to go alongside these multiplication sums. You
learnt that multiplication is commutative. You then moved onto division. You
have learnt how to divide by grouping items up to show your working out. You
also learnt that division is the inverse to multiplication.
In handwriting, you have been learning how to write the
letters n,r,s and e
In spellings, you learnt spelling rule of removing e before
adding y. You learnt that words like crazy, wavy and breezy all followed this
rule.
In geography, you started our new topic on Kenya. You learnt
that Kenya is in eastern Africa. You used atlases to find out what other countries
are in north, south and west Africa. You found out that Africa was on the
equator and it has a dry and wet season.
In art, you learnt that some artists paint to music and the
genre of music determines on what their artwork is going to look like. You discovered
what a metronome beat is and you drew a real-life flower to a fast beat and a
slow beat. You thought about which beat you preferred to draw to and why.
In computing, you started your first lesson on pictograms.
You learnt what a tally chart was and practiced this within the lesson.
In music, you use the glockenspiels to create different rhythms.
You also practiced your worship song.
In PE, you completed your first dance lesson with Coach Beth
and really enjoyed it.
We have two WOW moments of this week. Firstly, you
celebrated first aid week. You learnt how to dial 999 in an emergency and what
you would say to the people on the phone. You looked at different scenarios and
thought about whether you would call 999 or not and if you would ask for the
police, fire or ambulance. You then moved onto looking at bites and stings.
First of all you learnt which animals can sting and which animals can bite. You
then completed some real life first aid and learnt how to treat a sting and how
you could treat a bite. You are going to be incredible first aiders.
Secondly, you have completed a lot of work on your
courageous advocacy. You are learning to be perseverance leaders. We looked at
different language and we decided whether this was perseverance language or
not. You then learnt about Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycott. You
thought carefully at how she was a perseverance leader and didn’t give up on
what she believed in. You were then given the challenge to be perseverance
leaders to reception. On Thursday, you worked hard in your groups learning a
new skill practicing a skill that you already knew. You thought about how you
could teach this skill to reception whilst being a perseverance leader. You
were so EXCITED about this challenge! On Friday, after some group practice of
your skill you spent an hour with reception learning and performing your skill.
We can’t wait to show you everything we have done in our worship this Friday.
Have a lovely weekend and well done for working so hard.
