Welcome back to you all and I hope you have had a fabulous half term. You have settled back into a busy week
and you have all worked so hard. I am proud of you.
In Maths, we’ve been introduced to a new concept – ratio and proportion. We have used numicon and multilink cubes to help us to understand how to compare quantities and then used this learning to tackle reasoning questions.
We will continue with this unit next week. We finished the week by tackling another arithmetic paper, this time a SATs paper from 2022. Great focus from everyone.
In English, we’ve begun our second unit using On the Origin of the Species. We will be writing a formal piece on adaptation. We have investigated the meaning of key vocabulary from our example text. We have then watched a
short David Attenborough documentary which supported our task of becoming nature narrators. We have also begun to research our chosen animals and will continue with this next week.
Our spot light this week is on our computing lesson which allowed us to be both creative and evaluative, and this concluded our unit as we finalised our game design. We were able to debug elements by fixing errors and make small improvements. We challenged ourselves to name variables carefully and to add features that would create more interest for the player. Seeing a two-player game also inspired us to change our code, and now we are experts at adding a scoreboard and a timer to make the game even more fun to play. Great work, Year 6!
Other learning opportunities that we’ve enjoyed over our week have been…
PE, RE, Music, Science, DT, Spellings, Book Club, an introduction to our new Geography unit and a First Aid lesson
on choking. We have enjoyed time with our favourite buddies and we have also
chatted about our upcoming residential at Robinwood. A very busy week.
I have set Maths homework to reflect our fraction, decimals and
percentages learning to recap our skills. Regular reading and times tables
practice over the week is also on the list.
Have a wonderful weekend Year 6.
