Another week has flown
by, and it has been a jam-packed one. We have worked our socks off and I am so
proud of you all.

Long
division and BODMAS has been our learning areas in Maths this week. We recapped
short division and created a set of steps to success and then used this formal
method to calculate long division. We are all now very confident with this
method and I have set homework to consolidate this learning. We then went on to
learn a new area of maths BODMAS. We will continue to embed this learning next week.

In
English this week we have planned and written the first four out of five paragraphs
of our big write. We have used the characters from our book to think about
flashbacks and how to include them in our narratives. I have modelled my paragraphs
to show the change in tense and how to use the first person accurately. I can’t
wait to read and mark them all. I am excited.

We
have completed our fifth area on suffixes and begun our sixth in spellings this
week. We have also focused on some misconception words too.

Reading
assessments are now underway although we have used a couple of our book club
sessions this week to plan and practise our Class Worship. We have also visited
the Book Fair and enjoyed some independent reading time too.

In RE this week, we learnt that
the first candle of the advent wreath reminds Christians of the prophets in the
Bible. We thought about the messages behind the prophets Isaiah and Micah. We
used comic drawings to think about our learning. We have also added the
finishing touches to our own wreaths which we will bring home this week.

As
scientists, we recapped our key knowledge that light travels in straight lines.
We learned about the first periscope, invented in the 1400s, which shows how
light can change direction when it hits an object. We demonstrated this by
shining a torch towards a mirror. Alongside a diagram and a written
explanation, this helped us deepen our understanding of how light travels.

We began a new Art unit this
week, making 2d art into 3d sculptures. We are focusing on an artist called
Labaina Himid who creates large sculptures using images from her own culture. We
were introduced to a piece of her artwork and learnt a little about her journey
before creating our own art design to share her story. We will begin to think
about our own sculptures next week.

In
Music this week we continued to play our recorders. We were non-stop! We
played: Gently Sleep, Au Clair De La Lune and to finish, Hot Cross Buns. We
learnt a different way of reading notes. We used a brilliant Lion King video to
support this. It was blocked with colour and rather than reading the notes from
left to right, the notes went along the screen, top to bottom. We then ended
the lesson by playing a song called Happier.

In
PSHE, our task was to look closely at our fingerprints. We enjoyed enlarging
them to see the unique patterns and shapes. Through this, we began to recognise
that we are all unique, and our life stories are unique too. We reflected on
our own memories and significant events. This links to the verse: “I say this
because I know what I have planned for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans
for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11.

We
have taken part in two PE lessons.

We
have also enjoyed a wellbeing lesson thinking about what we are most proud of.

Thank
you for joining our Class Worship this week. We enjoyed sharing our message of
peace with you and hope you found both the Three Little Trees story and our song
A Wish for Peace as moving as I did. I was a very proud teacher standing at the
back of the hall watching everyone delivering their words so clearly and their
singing with such passion.

I
know how proud my children are of their waistcoats and we want to thank you for
spending some time after our worship enjoying them.

We finished our week off with some buddy time which we always
enjoy.

Most of us are up to date with all our homework. Please can
you use ensure your child has no outstanding tasks. I do keep the questions
being asked to a small amount, so this doesn’t become an onerous task. There also
some outstanding home learning tasks to catch up on.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Your
teacher.
Mrs
B.
