We have had a busy week in Year
6 and worked so hard. You have nearly completed your first
half term in Year 6 – and you have been brilliant.

This week in Maths we have
completed our addition and subtraction unit. We have worked on
problem solving by thinking about the different steps that need to be taken. We
have also recapped missing numbers. We will complete our assessment next week
before moving on to multiplication and division. Homework has been set to
consolidate our learning. Great work Year 6.

Our
English this week has been a week of speech writing. We have taken each
paragraph and carefully thought about our class targets. We have edited in the
moment and up levelled our writing where we can. A brilliant week of focus
and determination. You are all stars.

In Book Club this week, we have
all read with an adult and changed our reading books. We are aiming to read at
home at least three times a week to broaden our comprehension skills and
vocabulary knowledge.

We have begun a new spelling unit this week. We are
using suffixes beginning with a consonant and adding them to root words. We use
the saying drop, double or swap to decide if a root word changes.

In History this week, we welcomed each other to a school
reunion where we all took on the roles of people who were evacuated during WW2.
Our aim was to answer the question, were all evacuated children happy? We were given
a role play card with an evacuation story to learn. We then chatted to each
other and used a rating table to decide if the stories were ones of happiness.
We then used our tables to write a short observation to answer our question. We
all thoroughly enjoyed our role play lesson.

In Computing this week, we completed our projects
using google classroom. We are now ready to share our presentations next week.

Reflecting
on our Science learning this term was a great way to conclude our work on
Electricity. We took part in a rotation of hands-on activities, each designed
to revisit our scientific knowledge. We worked together to build circuits,
reviewing circuit diagrams and completed a fun task all about static
electricity.

In
RE this week, we discussed the term pilgrimage and what this means if you are a
Christian. We watched a video sharing different journeys of pilgrimage and then
used different pilgrimage locations to research why these sites are so
important.

Our
focus in French this week has been to combine our previous work on continents
and animals to construct sentences explaining where animals live around the
world. We were able to build our fluency by saying, “Le lion est de l’Afrique”
or “Il est de l’Afrique.”

In
Music this week we continued to perfect our dance steps. We are working so hard
to get this right. We faced away from the screen to see how we could manage
without following the actions. We are all really pleased with how much we are
remembering. We then sang all of our war songs with great enthusiasm –
especially Any Old Iron!

We completed our DT products
this week and what an amazing job we have all done. We will display our
waistcoats when we welcome you to our class worship next half term.

We have enjoyed another Young
Leaders lesson in courageous advocacy this week. We used our journals to recap
our cup challenge and reflect on our findings.

We have enjoyed two
PE lessons.

Secret scenarios were the focus
of our PSHE lesson this week. We discussed different situations as a class and
came up with our own reasons for different types of secrets.

New homework has been set. I
have set a new Maths.co.uk task along with Reading and TT Rock Stars. We are
working hard to turn our heatmaps green which will support our skills in maths.
New heatmaps will be given out after half term.

We
ended our week spending time with our favourite buddies. Fun in the Reception
classroom and garden was had by all.

A
brilliant week Year 6.
Have
a fab weekend.

Your
teacher.
Mrs
B.
