Another brilliant week Year 6. Your determination to do your best is just amazing to see and I am very proud
of you.
This week has been Anti-Bullying Week and in Year 6 we have thought about this in many different
ways. The key discussion this year is on power for good. We have discussed the
term anti bullying and what this means to us. We have taken part in a focused
house worship, we have also discussed what bullying could look like by sharing
a scenario called the incident at the school gate. We have created our own
kindness agreement and listened to a story call Something Else. Our PSHE lesson
added to our kindness agreement as we went around the classroom adding words of
positivity and kindness to each other’s profile. Great work Year 6.
Our Bible quote. “Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what
is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you, Ephesians 4:29 fits
nicely with this week’s learning.
In Maths this week we have worked on using our rounding skills to estimate answers for multiplication and
division calculations. We have also used factorising and known facts to
simplify the calculations before completing them. We ended our week using our
AI platform Magma Maths to polish our skills. Homework has been set to
consolidate our factors, multiples and prime number knowledge.
In English this week we have begun to analyse our focus text and think about the writing devices being used. We
have searched for different word classes within the text and used some of them
within our sentence accuracy. We have also written powerful setting
descriptions. What a joy it was to read your pieces Year 6.
We have dedicated our Book Club lessons this week to our Anti Bullying activities.
During our spelling lessons this week we have continued to think about suffixes. We learnt that some words
with multi syllables change the way we spell news words once a suffix has been
added. For example, forget becomes forgetting as there is a stress on the second
syllable wich means we double the consonant.
Our Wellbeing lesson this week focused on how we keep ourselves safe. Children spent time thinking about what safety
looks like to them.
We have taken part in two PE lessons and a fitness activity.
In Music this week, we worked hard to try and perfect our dances. We cannot
believe how close our VE Day celebrations are getting. We then moved on to
consolidate our previously learnt recorder knowledge.
We have continued to learn about light in Science and considered the question – does light travel in
straight lines? We used mirrors to explore beams, and we carefully used an LED
pointer to try and reflect its beam around our classroom. We will continue to
explore light next week.
In RE this week, we learnt about the meaning of the advent wreath. We watched a video to think about what
each candle represents and symbolises. We are now in the process of making our
own wreaths to embed our learning. They are beginning to take shape nicely.
In Computing this week, we began to design our own web pages after thinking about our target audience and
what information we wanted to share. We are using Google Sites to add logos,
headers, images and texts to catch our reader’s attention. We will continue
with this next week.
In our second Geography lesson, we explored energy as a natural resource. First,
we explored the different types of renewable energy, and then we considered the
advantages and disadvantages of each—first in teams, and then as a whole class.
We have enjoyed some amazing examples from our Bingo Boards in show and tell this week. We are a little
behind with them, so please bear with us. Well done Year 6. Great achievements
to celebrate.
We ended our week in the company of our favourite buddies. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Your teacher.
