Happy Friday, Year 4!

Who knew what exciting things our week would hold when we started it back on Monday. I bet you never thought that home learning would have been part of our week on Thursday. A huge thank you to all of you who worked hard at home to complete your tasks.

Whilst at school, we have been extremely busy too. On Monday, we welcomed Mr Aspanell for our first Wellbeing Champion session. In this session, we learnt about the importance of choosing happiness. We then went outside and enjoyed playing games where our choices determined whether we felt happiness or not.

We had our first Geography session too this week. Our first focus was to be able to locate where North and South America is. As part of our learning, we learnt about lines of longitude and latitude and our final task involved using the atlases to help us locate some of the countries in North and South America.

In RE, you got creative this week as you used torches and different light sources to come up with metaphors for Jesus. From "Jesus is like a lighthouse" to "Jesus is a sunrise," your comparisons were both imaginative and meaningful. You showed a great understanding of how light can represent love, guidance and warmth. We also explored one of our favourite songs ‘My Lighthouse’ to see how metaphors are used in the song to explain how Jesus is the light of the world.

In Book Club, we have finished off our Poetry unit. To end the unit, we explored Valkyrie’s Lullaby and revisited all the Viking poems we had studied. We talked about which ones we liked best and why — thinking about rhythm, powerful language, and how the poems made us feel. Then we worked in groups to write reviews of our favourite poems and even performed them for the class. It was a brilliant way to wrap up our Viking poetry adventure!

In Computing, we use an app called ‘Wavepad’ to record and edit audio.

In Maths, we have been busy learning how to use bridging to help us take away multiples of 1, 10, 100 and 1000 from 4 digit numbers, and in English we have enjoyed exploring our example text which has helped us understand how to write an outsider narrative.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend,

Miss Pennance
