Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic week it has been in Year 3! The children
have been busy learning, exploring and having lots of fun across the
curriculum. Here are some highlights from our week:
We concluded our unit on addition and subtraction with some
exciting NCETM games. One favourite was Dicey Addition, where children
built sums by adding two-digit numbers together. The challenge was to get as
close to 100 as possible!
This game encouraged pupils to think critically about where to place their
digits in the tens and ones columns, and there was lots of fabulous
mathematical talk happening as they worked with their partners. The classroom
was full of enthusiasm, teamwork and problem-solving — and we had so much fun
playing together!
In Science, we launched our new topic on Light. The children
explored what light and dark mean through an investigation using a bear cave.
When there was no light, we couldn’t see the bear at all — but once a torch
shone through the window, the bear suddenly appeared!
We then investigated which objects are luminous (light sources) and which are
non-luminous, developing our understanding that darkness is the absence of
light. There were lots of smiles, curiosity and brilliant scientific thinking
throughout the lesson.
Swimming was great fun this week! The children worked in
teams to retrieve different swimming toys from the water. The team that
collected the most toys were the winners, but everyone showed fantastic effort
and teamwork. We thoroughly enjoyed another successful and energetic swimming
session.
In English, we finished writing our narratives inspired by
Grandad’s Secret Giant. The stories were absolutely amazing, and we are so
proud and excited to share them with Year 1 next week.
The progress the children have made since September is truly incredible, and
they should be immensely proud of their writing achievements.
Next week will be our Spring Term's Y3 Class Worship on Friday 13th February at 3pm. We hope you can join us and look forward to sharing our learning with you.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Year 3
always make me an incredibly proud teacher and they have represented our school
superbly this week.
Best wishes,
Mrs Roney.
