Dear Parents and
Carers,
We’ve
had an exciting and busy week in Year 3, filled with rich learning across the
curriculum. In English and Maths, the children took part in our Assessment
Week, completing short quizzes that allowed them to apply everything they have
learned so far. We were very proud of the focus, effort and resilience they
showed throughout.
In
RE, we learnt about different faith leaders with a particular focus on Judaism
and Islam. The children explored the roles of rabbis and imams, thinking
carefully about how they contribute to their communities, and we also discussed
how these roles are similar to those of priests and vicars in Christianity.
Our
History learning took us back to Roman Britain as we studied the successful
invasion led by Emperor Claudius. The children explored why his invasion was so
effective, identifying reasons such as the 1,000 ships he brought carrying over
20,000 legionaries, the use of the testudo shield formation as a defensive
tactic against the Celts, and the building of wooden forts which were later
rebuilt in stone. We also looked at famous Roman historical sites across
Britain to understand the impact of Roman settlement.
In Music, We continued playing our glockenspiels.
We began by playing note C to Love What We Do, followed by notes B,C,D,E,F and
G. We have also joined year 4 to practise our carol service songs each
day – we can’t wait to perform these to you soon!
Our wellbeing time was well spent exploring the things that make
us smile and the things that bug us. We shared our answers thoughtfully,
listened to one another carefully, and considered when we might use one of our
wellbeing strategies—such as butterfly breathing—both at home and in school.
In our second Science lesson, we thoroughly enjoyed exploring
magnets to develop our scientific vocabulary. We then moved on to defining
contact and non-contact forces, learning that contact forces act between
objects that are touching, such as a push, a pull, or friction.
Forest School linked
beautifully to our English vehicle text Fox. The children
designed and created thoughtful homes for Magpie, imagining her return from the
desert. They carefully considered the size of the entrance so Fox could not get
in, created a warm and safe nest, and even found minibeasts and bugs to leave for
her as food. Their enthusiasm, care and creativity were wonderful to see, and
they were truly passionate about helping Magpie on her journey back.
We
hope you enjoyed our class worship this week— I know I am certainly one very
proud teacher. If you couldn’t attend and wish to watch the recording in
school, please contact us to arrange a suitable date and time.
Thank
you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a lovely weekend
and we look forward to another great week of learning ahead.
Mrs Roney.
