What a fun week we have had with nativity practices, danceathons,
forest school and lots of super learning!
In English this week we found a diary left in our classroom
which belonged to William. We talked about what a diary is—a personal piece of
writing where someone records their thoughts, feelings and experiences. We then
realised that William had written his diary entry about the first time he saw
the Owl Tree. We explored the vocabulary in the story and learnt the meanings of
new words such as commotion. We also learnt about plurals and discovered
that if a noun ends in ch, zz, sh, s or ss, we need to add –es to make it
plural. You all wrote lots of great sentences using plurals to show your
understanding.
In Steps to Read, we finished our last two lessons of The
Real Boat, a beautiful story about a tiny paper boat who dreams of becoming
a real boat and sets off on a brave adventure across rivers and oceans to find
where he truly belongs. You answered a range of comprehension questions to show
your understanding of the story. For the rest of the week, you spent time
reading out loud to me and Mrs Parker, and we were so pleased with your
fluency, accuracy and expression. You should all be very proud of your reading
progress!
In Maths, you have been super busy learning how to add a
two-digit number to a one-digit number and how to add two-digit numbers to a
multiple of ten. We began by using dienes equipment to help you understand the
process practically, and then you learnt how to complete these calculations by
drawing blank number lines. You then moved on to the tricky skill of adding
two-digit numbers to two-digit numbers, and I am so proud of how well you have
done with this. You have shown brilliant resilience and determination as you
mastered these challenging concepts.
In our afternoon learning we have been just as busy. In RE,
you thought carefully about how the angels spread good news. You went on a bad
news and goods news trail around the classroom and you had to decide wether it
was good or bad. In well-being you wrote about the things you miss in your life
in your journals and drew pictures to go alongside. In geography, you continued
your learning on landmarks. You thought about your favourite landmarks in
Wybunbury and why it was your favourite landmark. You then completed some field
work. We looked at the rules we have to follow when we complete field work and
what field work is. You went onto the field and drew what we could see and then
you thought about what you could hear, see, touch and smell from where you were.
In art, in forest school you built upon your drawing skills and learnt how to
do a blind draw where you had your pencil covered over with card so you
couldn’t see what you were drawing. For the rest of forest school, you had a
special team building session where you all worked together to build a shelter
with twigs and leaves. Your shelter was spectacular! In DT you spent our lesson
drawing and colouring your pods and putting them on your ferris wheel! You’ve
even started to paint your wheel. Next week we will finish our painting and add
your local area feature onto it. For the rest of our time in school,
we have spent time practicing the nativity and completing the danceathon!
What a fantastic week we have had!
Enjoy your weekend,
