Happy Friday Team!
In our English lessons, we have been working really hard on sentence accuracy. We have been making sure to use and in our sentences and thinking carefully about plural words — we know this means more than one. We have also been reading the example text and completing our Wise Owl activities, finding different parts of the text. We spotted adjectives, nouns, plurals, full stops, and capital letters, as well as repeating words and time phrases. We loved reading the example text and identifying the different features we found. Sometimes we struggled to spot the trickier words, but we all worked together as a team and helped one another.
In our maths lessons, we have continued our number challenge by looking at the numbers 8 and 9. We found all of their number bonds and used our knowledge to complete questions using number bonds from 5 to 10. We also took part in a quiz to see how much we remembered from our place value topic.
In our RE lessons, we started our new unit exploring how Jesus’ world is different from our world. We began by looking at the clothes people wore, and we even got to dress up and try them on! Then, we read stories from the Bible to spot more differences. We noticed that people wore sandals, didn’t have cars, and cooked using fire instead of ovens. We cannot wait to find out more about Jesus’ world.
In our Monday PE session, we started learning how to use our feet to move the ball around. We learnt a new skill called dribbling. We had to move the ball using the inside and outside of our foot and stop it with the sole of our foot. We played a fun game called Coconut Game, where we had to kick the ball to knock over the coconuts. We also played a dribbling game where we had to protect our own ball while others tried to steal it. We had to keep scanning around as we moved, kicking the ball behind us and chasing after it to make sure no one could pinch it!
This week's art lesson was all about evaluating the sculptures we had made. We began by looking closely at our own medals, identifying two parts we liked and one aspect we could improve on. After that, we looked at one another’s work and shared helpful feedback to support each other’s evaluations. Everyone took great pride in their creations, and we were all very proud of the medals we made.
In our music lesson, we created our very own Dinosaur Chant! First, we brainstormed lots of exciting dinosaur adjectives to describe how our dinosaurs might look and move. Then, we used these words to complete the sentence starter, “I’m a dinosaur and I…” Each of us chanted our lines using our best dino-voices, adding loud roars, stomps, and creative actions to bring our chant to life. It was a fun and energetic way to combine music, rhythm, and imagination!
In our computing lesson, we learned all about the rules of technology and how to use it safely and responsibly. We started by thinking about our school rules and discussed how these can also apply when we use iPads or laptops. Together, we talked about the important rules to follow to stay safe online and to be kind when using technology. We listened to the story “Troll Stinks”, which helped us understand why it’s important to treat others with respect on the internet. Afterwards, we created colourful posters to remind everyone how to stay safe and make good choices when using technology.
In our science lesson, we explored materials and thought about what they are best suited for. We had a good laugh imagining a jumper made out of wood! Then we discovered that Ted had a problem — his shelter was broken, and we needed to find a waterproof material to keep his toys dry. To help him, we carried out a comparative test, dropping water onto different materials to see whether they absorbed the water or stayed waterproof. It was lots of fun making our observations and discussing which materials worked best and why.
€€In our Courageous Advocacy lesson, we worked together to finish our Kindness Tree. Everyone helped by colouring in the title for our display and cutting out bright, cheerful leaves. We talked about all the kind acts we might see happening around school and how each one could be added to our tree. We’re so excited to introduce it to the rest of the school and watch our Kindness Tree grow as more and more kindness leaves are added!
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! See you all on Monday!
