We have had another great week in Year 4.
In Maths, we have been learning how to add using the skill of bridging, and we learnt that number bonds are an extremely important part of this. In English, we explored a new book called ‘Leaf’, and we learnt that we will be using this book as our inspiration for our next piece of writing – an outsider narrative.
In our afternoon lessons, you enjoyed RE and Art on Monday. During our RE lesson, you explored the questions: What does light do to the dark? and Why is light such a powerful symbol? We thought about our own feelings towards light as a symbol of hope, learned about Terry Waite’s story, and reflected together on Bible stories that bring comfort and inspiration. It was lovely to see you reenact these moments through role play.
In Art, we learned about Shaheem Ahmed, who calls herself a craftivist—someone who uses art to share important messages. We looked at pictures of her work and talked about how they made us feel. We noticed that she often uses maps, 3D shapes, and stitching in her pieces. Then we started making our own fact files about her in our sketchbooks. We continued with our art lesson on Tuesday too.
This week was also Anti-Bullying week. This year’s focus was ‘Power for Good’. We learnt about what bullying means and the roles of the different people involved. We then learnt about how we can help. Finally, we made a kindness agreement for our class.
In our PHSE lesson, we had our second ‘Drugs and Alcohol’ lesson. This time, we learnt about how alcohol can impact more than just the person drinking it. We also learnt that it is very important to not drink drinks unless we know what they are or unless a trusted adult has given them to us.
In computing, we started a new unit. In this unit we will be learning to create a podcast. For this week's lesson, we learnt about what makes a good recoridng.
In music, you carried on learning our new song and this week the focus was learning to sing in two parts.
In science with Miss Smith, you continued learning about states of matter. This time, we learnt about gases.
Hope you’re having a fab weekend,
Miss P
