Another week has just flown by in Year Two and what a great
learning week it has been.
In English, we have continued to build on our learning about
The Night Gardener. You wrote a fantastic setting description all about Grimloch
Park, using some incredible descriptive language. This week, you learnt what an
expanded noun phrase is, and you confidently used similes, expanded noun
phrases, adverbs, and adjectives to make your writing detailed and engaging. You
also spent time analysing the text. We looked carefully for different types of
SPaG features and highlighted them, before completing the writer’s knowledge to
explore why the author used these features and the effect they had on the
reader. All of this hard work is helping you get ready to write your very own
descriptive narrative next week. On Friday, you planned ideas for ‘Grimloch
Park in the summer’. You used your senses brilliantly—thinking about what you
might see, hear, smell, and touch. You even came up with some lovely similes
that you may want to include in your final story. You are becoming amazing
descriptive writers!
In phonics, you have been continuing to learn and revisit
your sounds. You have been building on your fluency and accuracy. In my reading
group, we have been working hard on reading out loud. You have been working on
your expression and pauses when getting to full stops.
In maths, you have been working incredibly hard on adding
and subtracting numbers. You learnt all about number bonds to 100, and you
discovered that you can use your number bonds to 10 to help you work these out.
Using practical equipment such as ten frames, 100 squares, and dienes, you
represented different numbers and explored how they fit together to make 100.You
have also learnt how to bridge numbers when adding across tens, a tricky skill
that you have tackled with brilliant determination. Well done for your super
focus and effort this week!
Our afternoon learning has just been as busy. You have
worked hard in RE by building upon your knowledge of how good news is spread in
the bible. You learnt about when Mary was visited by an angel to tell her that she
was going to have a baby. You role played this part in partners and then
created some questions you would like to ask Mary. Your questions were superb.
In heartsmart, you thought about yourselves and different
facts about yourself. You created a rolling dice with 6 facts about you!
In forest school and art this week, you created some fabulous
continuous line drawings in your books of different leaves and natural objects
you had picked from outside.
You have completed two lessons of DT this week. In your
first lesson you found out that we were going to create a ferris wheel model
that could be made for Wybunbury. You understood the design criteria and we looked
at lots of different ferris wheels to get some ideas. You found out that a ferris
wheel needs an A base, axle, wheel, pods and an axle holder. You designed the
start of your ferris wheel using these ideas. In your second lesson, you built
upon this leaning by learning about the properties of different materials which
linked nicely to our science topic this term. You found out that we would like our
pods to be made out of a material that is strong, waterproof and transparent. You
then thought that all of the other parts of the ferris wheel need to be made
from materials that are strong, sturdy and waterproof. To develop this learning
on further you found out how to make your wheel and axle for your model ferris
wheel. You learnt that you could have a fixed axle and an unfixed axle.
In computing, you
continued your learning of digital photography by learning how to take photos
in portrait and landscape. You learnt that tall objects like people and
buildings need to be taken in portrait and wide objects like scenery need to be
taken in landscape. As well as all of this superb learning, you have been
working really hard on learning all of the songs for our nativity!
Well done for working so hard Year Two, I am so proud of
you!
Have a wonderful weekend,
