Welcome back to you all. You
have settled straight back into your learning and completed a busy week. Well
done Year 6.

In Maths this week, we have worked
with multiples, factors, prime, cubed and squared numbers. We have considered
rules of divisibility to support our understanding of prime numbers and looked
for patterns in cubed and squared numbers. Next week we will begin to look at
mental and formal methods of multiplication and division.

In English this
week we have begun a new unit based on the book Story Like the Wind by Gill
Lewis. We began by looking at different key items from the story and predicting
what we thought it may be about. We have used illustrations to build vocabulary
and to write an onomatopoeia poem. We have sailed a stormy sea on a small boat
(otherwise known as a PE mat) and thought about how we would feel if we were a
character in the book. Next week we will write a setting description and begin
to analyse this text and investigate the writer’s knowledge. Brilliant work
Year 6.

We have begun a week of reading
with an adult in Book Club and changed our books if needed. Year 6 challenge
reads have also been a focus. Some children have completed book reviews, and we
are well on our way to bronze, silver and gold awards. Super news.

In Spellings this week we have
focused on multi syllabic words and knowing how to double a consonant if the
stress is on the second syllable. We will complete this unit next week. Well
done Year 6.

In Computing this week, we have thought about websites and discussed the ones we use. We then went on to explore an
existing website and used the navigation tools to answer different questions. We will continue with our new unit next week.

We began our new RE unit this week all about Advent. We thought about what Advent means to a Christian. We then went on to discuss our own preparations for Christmas.

We began a new Science unit this week investigating light. We recapped our Year 3 learning and used Explorify to discuss and recap facts. We then considered the question – does light travel in straight lines? We also discussed what it felt like to wake up
in the dark. We then conducted an experiment to prove that we can only see if light is present. We will continue with our new unit next week.

We have begun our new geography unit by exploring the question: Natural resources—what are they, where are they found, and why are they important? In our first lesson, we discovered what natural resources are and how they are used. We especially enjoyed discussing which natural resources are essential for life, and with this we were able to justify our answers.

During our first lesson of a new PSHE unit we considered how easy it is to give and accept compliments. We came up with different ways we show kindness. Our lesson fitted in well with Mrs Chesters worship which asked us to think about how we can serve our school family.

Our Wellbeing focus this week was on activities we enjoy at home. We enjoyed this session whilst listening to calming music.

We have taken part in two PE sessions this week.

We had a very busy music lesson this week. We practised our wartime dances by organising our positions to ensure we can all be seen by our visitors during our VE Day celebrations. We also enjoyed a recorder lesson and recapped notes B, A and G and played the tune to Hot Cross Buns.

We took to our journals in our Archbishop Young Leaders Award lesson. We reflected on our Walk of Trust activity and then went on to choose an activity we can do at home.

We welcomed Shavington High School into class this week along with two of their lovely students. They shared their transition experiences, and we got to ask many questions which helped to settle our worries.

Thank you for supporting our Open Evening. Year 6 you did an amazing job showing our visitors around school. What wonderful ambassadors you are.

We ended our week spending time with our favourite buddies. Another amazing week of learning Year 6. I am proud of you all.

Have a wonderful weekend
Your teacher.
Mrs B.
