What a fantastic first week back for our final term together!
On Monday in English, we had found that a cardboard cut out of a whale had been left for us. Around the whale’s neck was a note that said ‘From, Noi’. The whale was in a tray of sand so we thought this wasn’t normal and we spoke about how whales live in the ocean. Throughout the week, we have learnt so much about whales including all of it’s body parts. Did you know a whale has a blow hole because it’s a mammal and can’t breather under water? Throughout the week we have been reading parts of our story called ‘The storm whale’ we have been so engrossed in this story.
In phonics you have all been moved into your new phonics groups and you have been learning your new sounds and reading your new stories.
In handwriting we have been focusing on writing capital letters. So far, you have learnt to write the capital letters ‘A,B,C,D,E,F’. You are so good at forming these letters!
In maths we have had lots of fun learning about capacity. We started the week learning how to measure capacity using ‘full, half full and empty’. We then learnt to compare compacity using the language of greater and fewer. Some of you even built upon your learning by measuring compacity using non standard units of measurement like blocks, aqua beads and scoops.
In our understanding of the world we have been learning about the lifecycle of a caterpillar. We are so grateful for Helen who provided us with some live caterpillars. We watched them as they moved around and we thought about how they were getting close to making their chrysalis. We are excited to see what they will look like after the weekend!
In our physical development we started to practice all of the key skills we had learnt over the year with THRIVE. This week, you practiced hopping, jumping and skipping. You have also been completing your fine motor activities each day.
In RE, we found a backpack that belonged to Tom and Tessa. You found in the backpack some plasters, bandages, medi wipes and a story. You learnt that this term you are going to be listening to stories from the new testament which have been told by Jesus. You learnt that these stories were called parables and that they always had a meaning behind the story. Our story this week that we focused on was about ‘The good Samaritan’. This story taught us to treat others how we would like to be treated and that we should always help people. We looked at the people who help us in our community and we wrote about how they can be helpful.
In heartsmart, we thought about the mistakes that Boris had made in the kitchen. We learnt that mistakes help us to grow. We wrote an drew pictures about the mistakes we had made and how we had put it right.
In wellbeing, we learnt what the feeling of being proud is meant to feel like. We thought about the things we are proud of achieving in reception. There is lots you should be proud of reception!
As well as all of this we have enjoyed time choosing in the garden and classroom. You have been painting, constructing, making potions and creating with playdough. On Tuesday, you had the special treat of having your buddies come for choosing time in the classroom it was so lovely to see you altogether.
What a wonderful week reception.
See you on Monday,
