We’ve had another fantastic week in reception with lots of hands on learning, stories and rhymes. In our communication and language and understanding the world we have spent a lot of time this week exploring the season of Spring. By the end of the week, we had been able to name the four seasons in order. You were also able to explain what animals and plants we see more of in Spring. You have also moved your plants into bigger pots to give them more room to grow. You are such clever gardeners. Each day we practiced our poem about Spring for our communication and language. We really enjoyed this poem! Next week, we will add some actions to our poem.
In literacy this week, you have been building upon your learning of our story of ‘The extraordinary gardener’. This week you put all of your skills together and wrote a character description all about Joe. You then also got a new letter from one of Joe’s neighbours ‘Mrs Willow’ who explained how her world had got so much better since all of the plants started to grow. She asked you about your fantasy world and what you would have in your fantasy world. You came up with some very imaginative ideas. You then drew a picture of your own fantasy worlds and wrote some sentences describing what your world has.
In maths, you have been learning your number bonds to 10. You have been learning to recognise these number bonds in a systematic order. You have used counters, blocks, play dough, matching games and numicon to learn your number bonds to 10. We will keep practicing this as we recognised it was a tricky concept!
In our physical development, you had your PE session with thrive where you developed your kicking skills.
In expressive arts and design, you have been continuing to learn the glockenspiels with Mrs Pointon. You have also been painting on easels and chalk boards in the garden. We have had lots of fun using our self-paint station to mix our own colours together.
In heartsmart, you found out Boris was feeling really sad because the scrapman was telling him lies. We thought about how we may feel if someone tells us a lie. We thought about things we could say and do to Boris to cheer him up. You created some fantastic post cards to cheer Boris up.
In RE, we continued our learning about Jesus. You thought about how when Jesus was a boy his life was very different to yours. We listened to the story of Jesus at the temple. We thought carefully about the clothes he wore and what Jerusalem was like. We looked at pictures of Jerusalem now and how it is different to our country. You then created a list of things that we can do now that Jesus couldn’t e.g. ride in a plane or car, eat pizza and chips.
In our wellbeing session we thought about who we are and our own identities. You told me different ways to describe yourself using the sentence starter ‘I am’. I always love our wellbeing sessions as I get to learn so much about you.
We were so lucky with the weather this week! We got to have so much time outdoors painting, constructing, playing in the water and sand tray and you were even learning how to play games of hide and seek with each other. You found some great hiding spots in the garden!
I hope you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend. I will see you on Tuesday superstars.
