Wow, Reception Class! We have reached the end of our very first term together, and I am so proud of how you have all settled into school life and embraced every learning adventure that has come your way. You truly are shining lights in our school community!
Let's share our news from across the week...
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: This week, we followed the adventures of Patch the Pumpkin as part of our learning theme. Patch was a very special pumpkin, born with a heart-shaped mark on his side. He discovered that whenever he did good deeds, helped others, or showed kindness, the light and love of God shone outwards.
Inspired by Patch’s story, we carved our very own Patch Pumpkin and lit it each morning beside our lighthouse, reminding us to always let our lights shine bright.
Expressive Arts and Design: In the spirit of “waste not, want not,” we used all the fleshy parts from Patch to make a delicious pumpkin soup. We practiced our cutting skills carefully, measured out the ingredients, and enjoyed dipping some tasty Italian breadsticks into our soup.
Mmmm… yummy!
We also saved and dried out the pumpkin seeds to plant later in the year.
In music, we listened to Our House by Madness, what a fun song! We also revisited some of our favourite action songs like Pat-a-Cake and Five Little Ducks, played copycat rhythm games, and explored high and low pitch. Our classroom was full of laughter and song!
Physical Development: In PE with Mr J, we completed our Bertie Bunny adventures in the carrot field. We remembered to use our manners — saying please when we wanted the ball and thank you when it was passed to us. We practiced running, hopping, jumping, and throwing and catching, before finishing with some fast-paced games of passing the ball and beanbag. We had such fun and worked brilliantly as a team!
We even finished the week with some exciting games of Pip, Pip, Pumpkin!
Mathematical Development: In maths, our focus was on patterns! We explored how to make and continue AB patterns, carefully splitting them into sections to identify the repeat. We had great fun spotting mistakes in patterns and fixing them without starting over — such clever thinking!
Reception Class, you have truly shown how amazing you are this term, curious learners, kind friends, and shining lights in every way.
Have a wonderful, restful half-term break. You deserve it! I can’t wait to see all the new learning adventures we will go on together when we return.
